Squid is OK but that long track is like watching paint dry.

Jody, I just finished listening to the second disc of Dirge - Wings Of Lead Over Dormant Seas and I'm still shocked! This is one of the few 1 hour-long songs that's actually enjoyable (damn Devil Doll...). Its very epic in sound and size too. I'll need to re-listen to the first disc to see if it's up to the second disc.

It has been a long time since an epic of that length held my attention for the entire time, what a track!!!!!!!!
I think the first disc is good, but I prefer the second a little bit more.

Never said it was bad, but they could've done something better with 20 minutes. Can you imagine a true epic song from those guys? They had the potential to make a great song, but they preferred to play it laid-back.

My favorite from that album. Rocket Falls On Rocket Falls. The little climax in the song is my favorite part! I love to just close my eyes and let the music take me wherever it wants to and the second part of the song does that perfectly.

Indeed. The singer is one of my favorite things about them. I remember saying that in the review I wrote for their album.
I won't get your hopes up about the "epic". There isn't much going on in it and I feel that the song is what drags the album from being a full 4 stars for me. It's not a bad song, but they could've done better.

^^^ I tend to see them as being in the middle of both genres. Their guitar melodies tend to be closer to Post-metal while their song structures are closer to Prog metal. I'm looking forward to their next release.

Now that I have listened to it quite a bit, I am starting to feel that Giant squid is more prog metal than post metal. I guess they're use of different instruments is why we consider them post.
They still rock!

I love giant squids vocals, and how they arent restricted to the ambience a lot of post metal bands are, not that ambience is a bad thing, but sometimes you need a breather.

^^^^ Yeah It was kind of a shock to me. That's part of why I made the poll. I'm thinking on preordering the DVD as well. I already heard their single and Staralfur sounds nice (its part of the acoustic set).

I just found out that Heima and Hvarf-Heim by Sigur Ros are due to be released on Monday, I didn't realise it was so soon, needless to say I've just put preorders for both in. I'm really looking forward to these two releases.
