They're a great band. They're pretty traditional to the genre so its a great band to start getting into Post-Metal and the fact that their albums is FREE its even better!
I think you should get their most well known album, "The Fire In Our Throats Will Beckon The Thaw" A wonderful album. Very punchy. Great for headbanging. Mogwai is quite tricky... Either "Happy Songs For Happy People" or "Rock Action" are good places to start. If you don't like them still then check out their debut and see if that convinces you. |

Will do, This whole downloading for the morningside thing isnt working. I put it in my iTunes file, and when I tried playing it nothing would happen.
EDIT:
Nevermind, thanks to some genious' of music file procedures, I was able to download the album easily! Edited by schizoid_man77 - October 23 2007 at 20:44 |

Great list.
I'd add
Neurosis (post-metal's roots)
Mouth of the Architect
Pelican
Red Sparowes (slightly heavier form of post-rock)
Jesu (so so soo good)
But Isis are indeed the kings of post-metal IMO.

listening to The Morningside right now...
so far it reminds me a good bit of Agalloch's "Ashes Against the Grain" so, that reminds me of another good atmospheric metal recommendation: AGALLOCH! [EDIT: bah! interrupted by roommates who don't like harsh vocals! I'll finish this later...] Edited by GoldenSpiral - October 23 2007 at 23:13 |

Not often metal as some of the other artists, but Explosions In The Sky has to be the greatest post-rock band of all time. I only have Mogwai, Sigur Ros, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, and Pelican, and I love it all, but hands down to EITS.

Noooo cmon!!!! the recording / production by Steve Albni is excellent, very nice, dry and unprocessed as well as spacious. I really like everything he's done w Neurosis from Times of Grace onwards..........
plus the mastering is not super sickeningly loud so it'll allow for more dynamic range when you turn up that knob to 11 to soak in da power!!!!!

I have listened to it three times,I would probably give it four and a half stars. The only problem keeping from from knowing the album isnt a masterpiece is because it falls into the trap of hypocracy.
They have beautifully toned lead gutars, and a not so distorted rythym section, keeping the atmosphere on the otherwise positive side. Then come the very hardcore like vocals, very gutteral and harsh, making the moment more oxymoronic. Other than that, fantastic album!

So far I'm listening to it. I can't enjoy it because of the vocals, but before they came in, it was very good. |
