is a band that i'm really good friends with. they're from the same part of connecticut as i am and the play a sort of heavy progressive music, influenced by the likes of king crimson and tool. they're working on getting an album together and right now they have some demos at:
www.myspace.com/indigae they're working on getting a label now and i'm trying to help them out by spreading the word, so if you could listen and give feedback i would greatly appreciate it. |

If they play Heavy Prog, then David and I (aka the HP team) should definitely take a listen - and we will. If they manage to get a label, we'd be very happy to add them to our subgenre.

that would be nice, although sometimes they take a bit of influence from metal, and therefore might be suited to be called prog metal. i guess that's up to you to decide, as you surely know more of these distinctions. |

Listened to the four tracks, and I do agree with you they're closer to Prog-Metal. Good stuff anyway.. Hope they get that contract soon!

Yes, that's what you should do... but they should be at least signed by a label, and possibly have some material out.

Had a quick listen. I'm not much into metal these days, which they definitely are. However, they sound solid enough to get somewhere. Small note: I don't like the singing on Inertia, it doesn't seem to fit the music.
EDIT: completely unrelated, Sean, but if your profile is correct, we share birthdays - even if I'm 15 years older than you are.... Edited by Angelo - October 11 2007 at 17:24 |

that is a valid opinion, though i disagree, but i like a lot of metal anyway so i'm more likely to like heavier stuff. and yes, we do share birthdays. |

Don't misunderstand - I had doubts about putting in the remark about the singing. What's more important is that they should keep trying to get that record deal, they deserve it no matter how I feel about metal a this time. |

well they're the types of people that are going to keep doing what they want, despite what people think, and what you said was at least constructive. a lot of people say stupid things without justifying them, and you at least did justify what you said and i take no offense at your comments. i agree with you about the importance of persistence, and i agree that they deserve it, they're one of the hardest working bands i know and they've all put so much devotion and work into their music. |

Persistence is good, also in supporting them.

Well, of course I only do it so that they'll promote my music when they make it big. but no, i just think that anyone who works as hard as they do and puts that much time and soul into their music deserves to be able to do that for a living. |

You are a tasty bit of man, Mr. Sean.
Hello all, I play bass in indigae. Thank you for the kind words, and constructive criticism. We live in a place where everything possible is on its ass, and without reaching out for the support of people who still believe in the sanctity of music, as it were, we will remain stagnant. Thank the Maker for the Internet, and thanks again. PLEAAAAAAASE TELL PEOPLE ABOUT US! |

hey... i guess i'll follow keenan's line and introduce myself here. it seems like a great community!
my name's bill washburn, and i'm the vocalist and a guitarist for indigae. big thanks to sean for starting a topic for us here... helpful comments now wait for us fully prepared, like a delicious meal that arrived when i was in the bathroom. alright, bad similes aside... i'm glad to be talking about us here. anyhow... angelo! i'd like to ask you about your comment about the vocals. many people seem to have a problem with my vocals for one reason or another... i'd just like to know what i could do differently. is it that they are too angry? not angry enough? too sloppy? too cleanly delivered? basically, what could i change about the approach? your further help would be much appreciated. |

Hello Bill and Keenan! Welcome here.
As for your vocals Bill: it's very hard to explain what I felt with Inertia, but somehow it feels like the voca lines belong to a completely different song. The rhythm is hacking on and one, and you seem to attempt a different rhythm/melody pattern that doesn't blend with it. That's a great idea, but it doesn't work on this track. Another thing, that could be more general, is that at the end of some lines you try to sing a bit higher, which has the same effect with your voice as with James LaBrie's - it becomes a sort of 'wail'. Yet, this is based on one track, and I suggest you don't stop singing. Just try to find a way to blend your vocal lines more with the music - sing a bit lower (don't strain your vocal cords more than you have to). As for anger - only to be applied in 'angry songs' |

Just an update:
the band changed the spelling from Indigae to Indig I (got tired of hearing too many jokes like "into gays" from stupid people) and they're working on recording more material but waiting to release anything official until they can get label support, as they want to ensure the highest quality. if you'd like to listen, the demo called "Lunch" is available at www.myspace.com/indigae, and might be a free download, I can't remember and don't want to risk my computer freezing because this school's network is so horrible. Also, more material can be listened to at www.indigae.com/audio. there they have a lot of live material as well as songs recorded as jokes. |

There's a new track up on the myspace site called "Adaptation" now that I think is really worth a listen. Unfortunately there's trouble for them getting a label and they want some sort of support before they release an album in order to make it the best recording they can.
