What do you say about this Rolling stone list?
Not too much Prog guitarists at all. (Hackett f.e.)
As a fact only prog guitarists on the list are:
42. Fripp
45. Zappa
49. Mclaughlin
69. Steve Howe
82. Gilmour

Forgot to say, if anyone is interested in lists go to http://digitaldreamdoor.com/ On the home page click music lists. I think about every instrument and genre is coverd. Including prog. It's fun to read all the lists but a tad bit time consuming.

What really amazes me is that you still take that mag seriously... There was another, identical thread last year, and the reactions were exactly the same. Well, I can understand their first nine choices, at least as regards their historical value, but the rest of their choices are by and large absolutely laughable. It really escapes me how Page can be # 9 and Blackmore only #55.. And the less said about Cobain and Jack White the better!

Because he was much much much better than Tony Iommi and Ritche Blackmore.
![]() I agree with you. What a "strange" list that is. Edited by Time Signature - October 03 2007 at 08:19 |

I've seen this list, quite an old one.
Cobain as No. 12- the list is not worth discussion. Neither is the whole magazine really.

Rolling Stone is just this castrated rag that used to be on the cutting edge, but now just knuckles under and goes with the status quo. Having Cobain up there is the 'popular' thing to do. Maybe non-prog, but I feel one of the best guitarists is ex-Eagle Don Felder. A true technician who put so much emotion into every solo. He could blow the pick-ups off a lot of the guitarists on that list. E Edited by E-Dub - October 03 2007 at 08:38 |

Roy Buchanan is on the list so it can't be all bad!
![]() It would have been nice to see Rory Gallagher on the list, as well as the under-rated Mick Box from Uriah Heep
![]() ...and there will be a plethora of other guitarists that others will think are far worthier, too!

What a joke!!!!! It is a good thing that I don't give Rolling Stone any creditibility. Admittedly, I don't know anything from The Stooges, but aren't they a punk band, which in and of itself means that the instrument playing is rudimentary at best. |
