If I see two review both of the same album I can't help myself being drawn to the review that's got the few stars first , the lower the stars the more I`m drawn to it and I don't know why ?

I hardly read five stars reviews ( you know, they are usually blind worship whicht leaves me cold ). I sometimes read one star ones, for the opposite reasons. |

Maybe in my case, I spot and develop further curiousity for 1-star ratings because it's somewhat rare to find that low of a progressive rock album (studio and live albums, anyway), except on a band's downfall in their career. Whereas, five-stars are used exagerately and often - but understandably - on more "popular" bands, say Dream Theater or Pink Floyd, for instance, whose albums may strike as particularly compelling and enjoyable in overall or simply reputable.
So, it's more likely that a seldom seen object will allure my attention better than normalcy; nevertheless, some 5-star reviews gather attention, depending on whom it's typed from and to what it rates. Alas, too many times I find 1-stars poised on the opposite end of the 5-star hyperboles mentioned previously. |

I don't pay much attentions to one star reviews, except by respectable, reasonable witers, otherwise they are usually trollings.

I won't vote on this one 'cause it is very subjective. I respect the points of view of all reviewers, but you all have to agree that there are some members that you feel more identified with, and even though i read most of the reviews about bands i like or genres i follow more consistently, i usually pay more attention to the ones of those mentioned members that i know have a similar taste that i do. Of course i read reviews of artists that catch my attention no matter who writes them or how many stars, but the ones with 1 star, especially if are given to bands i like, i read them basically for curisity.

1 star reviews on generally high rated albums just say to me that the reviewer doesn't like that kind of music or is angered because an artist veered off the path of previous albums they liked. I generally dismiss those. When someone tells me In Abstentia is "For completionists only" I try and never read another word they ever write.

Most of the 1 star reviews I've read are like "Man this sucks. This band should roll over and die. Only morons like this album."

I tend to look for informative 1 star reviews to get an idea of what might be wrong with an album but I do tend to ignore the ones that say "This album sucks...". Now i know to pay attention to reviews that say "This album sucks because there are cookie monster vocals". But I agree that for albums with many reviews I do tend to look for certain familiar reviewers to get their opinions in comparison to other albums they may have reviewed.

I think it's natural morbid human curiosity that compels you to at least look a a one-star review just to see how bad it is. When I've nothing better to do (and I mean nothing) I will spend the odd half-hour scanning the lone-star reviews of some of our more prolific reviewers. More often than not it's the review that warrants the solitary star, not the album in question, sometimes you can mentally see the reviewer squirming in his/her/its seat as he/she/it struggles to find something nice to say, but ever so occasionally there is a real gem that brings a smile to your face.

1 star reviews are the most entertaining, especially if it's a good writer(see Clem's Triumph reviews)

Actually I prefer 3 or 4 star ratings. One star ratings are given for a reason, usually because they are seriously faulted and five star ratings quite often disappoint me. I find that most of my favourite albums have been given 3 or 4 stars.

Sometimes the only real input you get about an album is from people who don't like it. Unfortunately, a lot of the time, the only people who take the time to write a review about an album they don't like only say stuff like "JUST DON'T BUY IT! TRUST ME!!" which really doesn't help at all.

I always read to the two stars or less reviews, because I know an average prog album will always be atractive to a lot of fans...... you know, the two first reviews with full rating, then getting lower.... and the lowest reviews are useful to spot the bad things an album can possibly has..... as most of them obviously. I spend an important part of my time here reading low-rated reviews about the top ten albums..... xD

The best you can is good enough...

I agree with the fanboy hypothesis on most 5 star reviews. Which is sad because there are many insightful and substantive 5 star reviews out there.
On the flipside, I see a lot of short, trite 1 star reviews.
