I could never possibly narrow it down to just one album!  A few names that jump out right away are...

Queensryche - Operation: Mindcrime
Everygrey - In Search Of Truth
Savatage - Dead Winter Dead
Dream Theater - Scenes From A Memory
Pink Floyd - The Wall/The Final Cut (I love that album damnit!)

I was just listening to Evergrey's "The Inner Circle" today for the first time really, and I must say it sounds like it has a rather nice concept.  The final track  "When The Walls Go Down"  is simply amazing!  I had to pick myself up off of the floor when it was over.  But to put it on the list after just one listen would be stupid!  I just thought I'd throw that out there though for other discussion...

What makes Hemispheres or 2112 concept albums? Besides the title tracks of those albums I can't see any lyrical connection between the songs.

I like the concept of 2112 very much, but it's not a concept album in my opinion.

So I'm gonna have to say Thick as a Brick.

I wasn't saying that 2112 is a concept album, I was saying I like the concept of the song 2112.

Frances the Mute is a very good concept album. Approve

Most recently, I found Ayreon's Human Equation to be an awesome concept album.  Historically, Pink Floyd's The Wall and Animals, and The Who's Tommy and Quadrophenia. Also, I really like the previously mentioned Queensryche Operation Mindcrime and Dream Theater Scenes of a Memory.  I was pretty excited when I saw that Queensryche had released the sequel to Operation Mindcrime.  I have listened to Operation Mindcrime 2 a couple of times and have enjoyed the music, but I have not delved into the story enough to comment on the concept.

Crime of the Century, Dark Side Of The Moon, Be, The Perfect Elephant pt 1 ... so I prefer concepts relating to the human condition rather than concepts with storylines, but I like Operation Mindcrime, The Human Equation, Dead Winter Dead type stories too.
 
One worth a mention, though very rare and flippin' expensive: The King Of Elfland's Daughter by Peter Knight and Bob Johnson - A prog-folk concept ablum based upon Lord Dunsany's famous book.

I thought about The Human Equation as well.
 
Quadrophenia is a good one as well but probably because that was in my early teens era. I remember living on the coast and seeing (and hearing) the long columns of scooters and bikes - not together you understand.

Me too - except I was suporting "the other team" at the time - which is probably why I never got into Quadrophenia (more a Too Old To Rock 'n' Roll: Too Young To Die! person myself Smile)

I'd say 2112 is in interesting concept, especially the part when our protagonist finds the guitar and tries it out. I also like the concept of 'Seventh Son of a Seventh Son', and I think King Diamond's story of the 'Puppet Master' is quite fascinating as well.

It is quite difficult stating your favorite concept without giving an example of the concept album that uses it. So, of those three albums, which is your favorite concept? No, I guess it's half a concept album. It's probably easier to consider it a concept thing with the old vinyl LPs in mind. Granted in CD format where all of 2112 is just one track, this get kind of difficult.

I was a bit young to understand what they (M's and R's) were about at the time but dabbled in both cultures over the years. I really liked my parka but then had a couple of motorbikes. Not the Triumphs or Hogs as I remember, just high revving Japanese bikes - but didn't get into the leathers, more a Belstaff man myself.
I can still remember the ground shaking as over 100 bikes went by in formation. Seemed to go on forever - very spectacular.

Operation Mindcrime: a naive, idealistic heroin addict exploited by a twisted "revolutionary" for profit. Also has a love story with a nun that is serious (couldn't you see Zappa taking on the same love story? LOL)
 
Devin Townsend- Ziltoid the Omniscient/ Jethro Tull- Thick as a Brick- Both of these albums mock the concept album, then end up being incredibly strong records. Both are supremely weird, but Devin's manages to out-crazy Ian.
 
Animals- Waters' at his biting best. The Wall was just a bit too much for me (same for Lamb Lies Down, another favroite in this thread).
 
PT- Fear of a Blank Planet- Wilson perfectly captures the mood of the stagnating youth (I know, I've seen a number of kids like this; heck, at times this album is talking about me)
 
The Human Equation- All of Arjen's albums deal with the human mind (they just use sapce/sci-fi as a backdrop), but THE does the best of putting the various emotions constantly bouncing around in our heads to music.
 
Remedy Lane/Perfect Element Pt 1- Gildenlow's best examples of condensing a wide array of subject matter into a cohesive whole
