Well, since there's been a couple polls about later Genesis recently, I thought it might be interesting to see how people thought 80s Genesis stacked up against 80s Yes.  I didn't include "Duke" or "Drama", since they aren't quite as controversial, if you know what I mean.Wink

I just finished up the remastered 90125 in the car and I still think it's magnificent. I like all the albums up there, but 90125 is my favorite. Beautifully remastered as well, I must say.

agreed 90125 and BG are fine albums, better overall than anything Genesis did in the 80s. However, I voted for Abacab. Don't ask.

Well, I actually do sorta like "...TO THE RYTHMN OF LOVE!" And, what's that one with the strings?

I always said the Yessers were decent art-poppers.

That's the only album on the list I actually like.

Nothing great here, but based on its own merits  90125 has great songs, great arrangements and production. Art Poppy, maybe good pop! nothing wrong with that!

Really, although the self-titled Genesis album is my fave after Duke, 90125 beats it hands down as a viable statement from an aging prog band altering their sound to appeal to a new audience.

Yes - 90125... good album. At least you can hear all the tracks without suffering and asking to yourself "what the hell they did?" and it has some interesting songs such as Cinema, Hearts and Changes...

Surprised not to see the 3 King Crimson albums on there, very controversial at the time.

IMHO, these are controversial in a sense that they are distinctly less labyrtinthine but these days, I am more acceptant of them than I used to be to the point I do enjoy them all. 'Abacab' is perhaps my least favourite there though, with '90125' being my personal favourite- still sounds great today, imho.

Frippertron, the reason I didn't put the Crimso albums up there was because Discipline would have absolutely obliterated everything (it's actually listed as #180 right now and has a 4.07 rating), though in hindsight, perhaps Beat and TOAPP could have been a nice addition.  (Edit:  Admittedly, though, 90125 is obliterating everything now.)

Personally, I'm torn between 90125 and Abacab.  I think that 90125 is more consistent, but the high points on Abacab are great, and the low point for many people, the notorious Who Dunnit, really doesn't bother me, amazingly.  Go figure.LOL  Still thinking at this point.

Pretty much all of Rush's albums except for Moving Pictures was pretty bad if that counts as controversial.

yes 90125 is actually a good album when considering a more commercial and pop aproach however in that case all albums here are good in that ...
