Here is my myspace.  I'd appreciate some feedback from my fellow prog fans.  The compositions are all by me; they are played using a synth program on my computer.  Let me know what you think.  As for genre, perhaps fusion? art rock? symphonic? prog metal?

thanks, hope you enjoy

Wow, a new sub-genre: midi-prog!

Sorry mate, didn't mean to offend you. Your ideas aren't bad, but the computer-generated sound implemetation just sucks.

Some patterns are clever and enjoyable but that is just not progressive rock in my book.

Will... that is great angular stuff, man. It needs a little polishing here and there, maybe brighter transitions between changes, but it's excellent. You should be proud.

Considering this guy presumably only has his PC as a musical outlet, I agree. Very good effort.

Wow... you did this just with a synth program on a computer?  That's amazing.  I never get further than the first 30 seconds of a song when I try to generate the sounds like that.  Kudos to you for having the patience to do this, and the talent to make it sound good!

As for the song ideas themselves, I like them on the whole.  I'd like to know, what is the full title of the 'Krang and the Techn...' song?  The whole thing doesn't display on myspace.  And is Krang a klingon?  I feel like I know that name from somewhere, and the only thing that's coming to mind are klingon names from Star Trek.

Another question for you - how did you put up a 5th song?  I've been trying to find an answer for how to do that on myspace, and no one has answered my question yet. :)  Only if you have time!

I can picture a lot of these songs being played by Yes or Rush, I think you've got some really promising material here.   Light, but at the same time intense and interesting, with lots of twists.  'Eudaimonia' in particular created an interesting, space-rockish texture.  Actually it also reminded me a bit of the music from Mega-man and Darius Twin (good things, I like that music personally).  A lot of this music had an adventure-ish feel to me.  'Woad' was very pleasant and fun, too!

How long does it usually take you to produce one of these songs?

Thankyou for the kind words, starsong.  I'm a pretty big fan of both Yes and Rush; that's quite a compliment.

The program i use basically plays off of a musical score.  I wrote most of the music with a guitar or piano at hand. That process can go slowly or quickly or not at all, depending on whether or not inspiration strikes.  After the music has been composed, it is simply a matter of writing out the score and entering it into the computer (a couple of years as a music major helps expedite this process).  The real tedious part is getting all the sounds right, but there's only so far I can go as I am limited by both the capabilities of the computer program and my own relative ignorance of EQs.

The full name of the song you asked about is "Krang and the Technodrome".  Its a reference to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.  I was kind of obsessed with them as a kid growing up in the early 90's.

oh, and you have to add bodog entertainment as a friend to get the 5th song

Wow, I really liked your stuff here.  Very well written songs, a nice balance of volumes, and flowing yet complicated time signatures.

Something I really liked is that I was always interested in what was going on.  There are many layers, and the music has a nice light mood to it.  I especially liked the songs "Come on Boo Boo" and "Eudaimonia" (what does that mean btw?  im too lazy to look it up...).

Oh and also, I tried out that Bodog Entertainment thing.  That rocks!  Thanks for the tip.

Very nice music, I really enjoy listening to other people who also do what I love to do.

thanks dan.

eudaimonia is a concept from ancient greek philosophy, mainly Socrates.  its basically spiritual happiness or contentment resulting from doing the right thing.

Ah-ha!  I knew I was familiar with that name, but I completely didn't connect it with the Ninja Turtles!  I used to have the action figures... I wonder where they are now?

I'm also a big Yes fan, and I like Rush a lot (although not as much as Yes!).    Yes, I suspect your years as a music major helped you with entering the score into your computer.  That's the part I always got too impatient with.  I never seemed to quite get the timing right.

Thanks for the tip on bodog entertainment!

Wow Will,

Some songs are fantastic, I really like a lot. Keep the good job man. One of my favorite kind of prog sounds. Congratulations. I added you on myspace. Check my tunes and my post here on PA.

Media, Pennsylvania?  I live literally 5 minutes from there, in Springfield.
