D Minor; it's the saddest of all keys, I find.

...In retrospect, the last thing I wrote WAS in Dm. I naturally incline towards Em though.

I'm not actually sure what you call my pair of favorites, as I've yet to find them in any chord book, but I've termed them Djesus and Dnot jesus.

Djesus is a standard cowboy-chord D shape, except the pinky finger is stretched to hit the E-string on fret 5. (XX0235). The name comes from me poking fun of my boss, who would always end songs on this chord. (I've worked at a church camp for the past 3 summers).

Dnot jesus is identical to Djesus except the 5 drops to a 4. The dissonance is just beautiful, especially when stacked against a syrupy-sweet chord like Djesus. (XX0234)

Anyway, if anyone is better at music theory than I am, it would be neat to know what these chords' actual names are, though I'll probably keep using my names.

Djesus seems not to fit into standard chord building theory. at least not in western thinking. D not jesus looks to be a D major chord with an added sharp 11th and No third. I'm not super well versed in music theory either but I have some theory books.  I'm about 90% sure Im reading them right :)   Dmaj#11 no 3  is how it would be written in short hand.

Funny names by the way. I'd keep using them also. Never heard of a cowboy shape either.

bah, you just need to take off your shoes and play three or four analog monophonic synthesizers at once. chords will consume you.

eh.. 'Djesus' is just a D power chord ^^ there is no #11. It is D-A-D-A. 'Dnotjesus' is cool because it has the evil sounding flattened fifth in it.
