Well, the fact that it was number one in the Billboard charts rarely says anything about quality, even less about prog! I know what you are trying to get across, that the album had an huge success and many where pleased as a whole. But I´m talking about this site, and I remember there where a lot of people really not happy with it. Opethguitarist just said it. I liked it, but it´s deffenitly not Top 5 album of the year material...at least for me. How did Beyond Twilight´s end in the list? Cause there is one extremly good album which I feel should at least be in the top 10 |

I find it boring and tiresome and one of the worst releases of the year. ![]() |

Matias, I actually wrote: "This follows on some five years after the triumph that was “Lateralus” and judging by the vote they didn’t let anyone down" With the album coming in at #5 on our poll and being #1 on the Billboard Album Chart, I suggest that more than enough were happy with it. ![]() |

Well based on the recommendation, I'm going to buy Kayo Dot, so it's all your fault if I don't like it...... And as John McLaughlin's now on PA, I must mention "Industrial Zen" as a high point of the year. And from the BOF brigade, Rick Wakeman made a decent stab at recreating glories past with his aptly titled "Retro". Roll on 2007!!

^^ I voted for it as 3rd or 4th in my list.
Kayo Dot was my number 1 pick, in case anyone couldn't tell. |

A couple albums of the year that seem unpopular but loved by me are "The Acoustic Verses" by Green Carnation and "For the Love of Art and the Making" by Beyond Twilight. There has to be people besides me here that has heard the new Green Carnation!

I agree with that but this group for some reason are very popular especially by older prog fans (not me). I have seen this across the all the boards and the biggest moan was when the leader decided not to take this live and broke the group up.
I was surprised at their popularity but it was the same with Kino the year before.

Those albums came around a little later, and were not heard by very many people. I think Deluge Grander did finish 12th overall. We got them added, and hopefully more members will check out this fantastic album. |

Not really. All personal preference and opinion, really. I much rather would take The Tain or The Crane Wife over Cautionary Tales of the Brave or The Dark Third. |

I'd be more for The Decemberists than that of PRR. ![]() |

Good luck trying to get the Decemberists in, people doubt PRR credentials enough with the Indie sound.
Not that they belong in here anyway. |

If The Crane Wife was on the archives, I know the results would be different
![]() Not a bad list, except I would switch The Mars Volta and Tool (and then move them even higher up ![]() |
