I don't know much about of the Noise genre except for Merzbow and some other noise related artists, but one of my discoveries this year was:
Sachiko - You Never Atone For ![]() Debut CD from Sachiko of Japanese psych rockers Overhang Party and all-female tone-float duo Vava Kitora (as well as ex-Kousokuya) is an immediate candidate for album of the year. First few tracks combine a totally beautiful smoke of high wordless vocals with a sponge of star-scattered tones and a depth-of-field you could free-float in for days that feels somewhere between a more Kosmiche take on Grouper’s breath constructions, the slow skull-trephing beauty of Taj Mahal Travellers, aspects of early liturgical chant, that classic lost-in-the-woods private press feel, Heather Leigh’s solo vocal/noise ferocity and the beautiful metal/mediaeval chorales of Keiji Haino’s classic Nijiumu recording, Era Of Sad Wings. Later tracks flit between ferocious loops of Junko/Waters-style vocal hysteria and dynamic rock-derived electronic noise and still pools of purple trance before the last track blows the whole album to a single feather. Impossibly beautiful and one of the best albums to come out of the Japanese underground this year. Comes with a beautiful full-colour cover with obi and jewel case. Highest possible recommendation. ![]() I really enhoyed that album and it's more ear friendly than the Merzbow albums I've heard (Merzbuddah, Frog, Pulse Demon) |

I don't really have any recommendations, but I've been meaning to check out some noise for some time now, so I'll try to find the albums you two mentioned, thanks.

I'm only really familiar with Merzbow and Wolf eyes, and they're both great. Sphere is my favorite Merzbow thus far.

Keijo Haino and Hijokaidan are important noise artists, based around strangling a guitar to death.
I think noise and drone is chiefly music to be experienced live, although I'm sure 350 Merzbow CDs disagree |

oh well, since the thread IS getting more replies hehehe.......
another interesting devt in noise nowadays is the emergence of acts which combine noise with psych rock, folk, drone and even some metal(!!), well one can't call them primarily noise per se but they're worth investigating: Vibracathedral Orchestra Hototogisu (as earlier mentioned) Total (from the same guy behind Hototogisu....Matt Bowyer....also responsible for Skullflower and Sunroof) Birchville Cat Motel Yellow Swans Mouthus Do find time to give em a listen or seven heheheh |
