I was in the Chapel today, and we managed to climb upstairs and play the pipe organ because the door was unlocked. It was AMAZING and it was beautiful sounding.
Just curious if anyone here has ever played one, or actually does PLAY one as a musicianship. It is really a beautiful sound, and it starts up like a car engine!!
Anyone played it?

Yep!
I have played this one on a few occasions:
And yes, there is nothing quite like something that big, with all the stops out moving a lot of air. It's VERY VERY loud! And very cool too!
I have a vague idea of asking permission to record it some day.

I used to play the one at my local church - it was an old Victorian model and could sound very spooky, especially since the church itself was 14th-15th century.
I've played others, though, the best sounding one is at the 11th Century round church in Northampton - the round auditorium has an amazing sonic ambience. The most interesting one I've played is the 1960s hi-tech organ in Oxford's New College chapel: http://www.newcollegechoir.co.uk/organ.htm |

The important thing is not to stop questioning.

There's a former church in Tchernovtsy(western Ukraine). Now there's a Organ Hall.Muiscal evening are held there every autumn and spring, as long as I remember, with participation of organ players from all over the world.
This summer I played there! There are some photos and even a vidoe of me playing a mid-part of MUSICAL BOX on a Pipe Organ costing 1 million $!!! here's the Hall's picture |
