Topic: Just feel out of my seat... Posted: December 06 2006 at 23:09 |
You can NOT post a reply.
The topic is closed. Wow that is so obnoxious I fell off of my chair and crawled back to my keyboard to type this. I apologise if it is the forums default, I find it extremely offensive to me, I don't need to be SHOUTED at when I try to make a post accidentaly in a closed topic. How about simple: "Error: Topic Closed" "Topic Closed" "Sorry, your message could not be displayed because the topic has been closed " |

and this is an abuse?
the idea isn't bad, but I don't think anyone is shouting to you just because there are some big letters word up in the message; plus, the message of "you can NOT post a reply" appears when you...try to post a reply . Edited by Ricochet - December 07 2006 at 00:53 |

Or how about
"Dear The Lost Chord, we are very very sorry, but we simply cannot allow you to post in this thread, since it has been closed. We did not realise you would be attempting to post in the thread, or we would of course have left it open in order for you to do so. Please do not take the closure as a personal affront, and feel free to post in one of the thousands of other threads we have left open for your use. We hope this has not spoiled your day, indeed your life too much. Yours sincerely, the members, the collaborators, the admin team, the owners, indeed everyone in the entire world."

^ the problem is that the text of the post is lost ... it happened to me a couple of times, and I was quite angry too.

Of course we constantly strive to do better.
I myself quite enjoyed dealing with forum-related problems until about 1.45 am last night. If I am about to close a thread, I normally try and type a warning post.Depends what else is going on at the time. Edited by Tony R - December 07 2006 at 06:02 |

It can't happen very often can it? The reply box does not appear if a topic is already closed, so it must only happen if the topic is closed between when you started to respond and when you clicked post.

It would be great to have it that way! Is it possible to implement it? Edited by Philéas - December 12 2006 at 13:02 |

That's the first I've heard of this. Although, I have never tried to post in a closed thread. Oddly enough, I just assumed that's what closed meant.
