Well, I'm surprised that their debut "Piper at The Gates of Dawn" isn't voted as their best!

as i just said on the aqualung thread, less/more/most progressiveness shouldn't be the definitive criteria for the judgement of value; music does have many other aspects that contribute to artistic brilliance. imo, Dark Side is less acomplished in complexity, progressiveness, "roundness", as Wish is, but is much more accomplished in other aspects that make it great art, further away from being just great music. it has an outstanding capacity to imply, create and offer meaning, through hymn-weighting tunes, with such effectiveness that makes it more than musically relevant to the listener, but deeply personal relevant to the listener's self. that's what makes it a masterpiece. it gets my vote.

...it's over-rated.  I get it.  I love it.  I'm one of the most ardently obsessed Pink Floyd fans ever... it's over-rated.  Fantastic album, but it's not the be-all-end-all of the Floyd discography.

It isn't overrated... You're wrong... it isn't overrated.

You know what people who haven't really got the album say?  They say, "Dark Side?  Yeah, you gotta be stoned out of your mind to get that."  What they don't say is that it's over-rated, and it certainly is over-rated.

Except you don't have to be stoned out of your mind to get anything (at least not anything with any merits of its own).

Exactly.  Which is why I said those people don't "get" the album.

Both albums contain Rock songs, but WYWH more than DSoTM.

Doesn't matter anyway - both are Prog, and DSoTM more than WYWH.

I'm not sure if that was a joke or not, but I love Piper. Syd Barret was a great songwriter and some of my favorite Pink Floyd songs appear on that album. Astronomie Domine, Matilda Mother, Interstellar Overdrive, Bike, and Scarecrow and just as strong as anything else Pink Floyd did. And Syd Barret rocks!

Anyways, I prefer Wish You Were Here over Dark Side of the Moon. Honestly, I prefer Meddle to both of them
