Claire: Eider Stellaire. Your avatar reminds me... must listen to Koenjihyakkei soon.
Faaip: Le Silo have been cleared for addition, I just need to find time to write a bio for them and then hopefully they'll be added. When that happens, someone will post it here. |

It is!!! It's interesting, - I love Magma ( not everything by them but quite a good part of their outcome). Magma are recognised number one Zeuhl band and founder of the subgenre, however this year I happily discovered some Zeuhl bands which are surpassing Magma IMO, and not only modern, but also quite old stuff such as Escaton and Eider Stellaire. This is not to diminish Magma's role and importance but rather simple observation.

"Better" I might have hesitation in saying..;) Different, and equally as good I might say rather. The door opened for me via Magma though; but they opened it to so very, very many stellar works! If you haven't heard it yet, [it was the 1st Zeuhl recommended to me on this list after I began to rave about Magma] try KOENJIHYAKKEI's Angherr Shisspa [it's my avatar]. Have you heard Eskaton's 4 Visions yet [it's the only one that's op presently I believe]? It is really sublime! Edited by listennow801 - November 06 2006 at 15:21 |

KOENJIHYAKKEI's Angherr Shisspa was love at first listen, as was Eskaton 4 Visions for me. I have not heard any other albums by these two bands yet.

Eugene,
I recommended it before and don't recall if you said you had it or not so...
For a "lighter" and jazzier side of Zeuhl go for Potemkine. Maybe Archaia as well.
As for a continuation of your Koenjihyallei experience go for Happy Family, Korekyojin, Bondage Fruit, Ruins and Ground Zero.
I will be replacing my mp'3 with cd's for most of these in the coming weeks.

Ooops. I meant Zeuhl, no idea why I said Krautrock... argh!
Well, I'm a bit slow on the uptake, but Eider Stellaire's debut is pretty much the only Zeuhl I've heard. I have to start somewhere! I have Angherr Shisspa to listen to as well. I also have Potemikine to listen to. I somehow missed out on 4 Visions though, grrr, oh well. I think I need to listen to Eider Stellaire a bit more, the debut was great, but didn't shine at me like a Belisha beacon. I'm sure with more plays it will. |

The only "right" place to start with Zeuhl is Magma. |

Well I have Retrospectïw I-II, don't I!
Maybe not the best place to start, but it's all I have. Edited by Geck0 - November 06 2006 at 18:37 |

I started out (after having listened to the sample track "Da Zeuhl Wortz Mekanïk" on PA - which was, back then, the only sample track) with the studio version of Mekanïk Destruktïw Kommandöh and, although I found it a bit difficult to get into, it worked out fine for me. |

My friend has a copy of Kohntarkosz (sp.), so I found out the other day, but then he is a big Krautrock fan and he even has some VdGG.
He's also a pretty talented musician and plays some nifty keyboard. |

You know someone who owns a Magma CD? Cool! But I once was in this store in my home town, where they also sell a few Magma albums, and there were these two guys discussing Magma. One said to the other "Nahhh Magma is much too difficult for you" or something along those lines... they didn't notice me listening to their discussion, grinning. |

My friend also likes Can.
However, we're not close friends, we just bump into each other occasionally. He's a good bloke though. I still have yet to meet anyone who owns a Taal CD (if I find someone who owns Mister Green, they'll never see the CD again!). |

If this even interests someone, here are some RIO/Avant/Zeuhl purchases I made recently:
Happy Family - Toscco Happy Family - Happy Family
Mosaic - Ultimatum plus (Honganji's recommendation) Tipographica - God says I can't dance
Ruins - Pallaschtom
Skeleton Crew - 2 cd release The Country Of The Blinds / Learn To Talk
Estradasphere - Palace of Mirrors
Now I have to figure out a way to explain this to my wife... But she'll understand. She is the same as me with music and books... Only we said we said we will cut back a bit and as you see I apparently do not grasp the idea... |
