Well,I have been a huge fan for almost 30 years.I was there at the beginning. When I saw Star Wars for the first time it hadn't caught on yet and there were FOUR other people in the theater besides me. |

Wow-- must've been quite early in the run, Progtol; that means you may remember the Biggs scene that was soon after taken out? A freind says he clearly remembers Luke talking to Biggs before they leave Tatooine |

I understand why you dislike the changes, but watch the original Death Star scene and then the new one, and then watch the old Hoth scene and then the new one. Those two scenes are absolutely amazing in the new version, while they look a little cheesy in the original one. So I guess now that I think of it, it probably would have been better if George Lucas had just touched up the special effects (like a CD remaster) and not changed anything about the movie itself. (Well at least nothing significant. I don't mind seeing more of the scenery of the cloud city for a longer time in the new version.)

I know in the book for A New Hope, there's a scene in which Luke goes to Anchorhead and sees a few of his friends and talks with them (Biggs included), never knew that they actually filmed that scene, though. |

Who's Biggs? I'm a little down on my Star Wars I guess.
Edit: Wait, I just remembered, he's the guy the fought the Death Star with Luke, right. I remember them talking like they new each other. He survived the Death Star, didn't he? I think he's the one who's X-wing (or was he flying a Y-wing) got damaged and had to retreat. Edited by Sasquamo - October 28 2006 at 14:45 |

The character you speak of is Wedge Antilles. Biggs Darklighter is the guy with the checkered helmet design and Vader kills him during Luke's attack run. |

I always wished Biggs had survived-- didn't seem quite right to sacrifice such a brave young Rebel.
The person I know who saw the first run swears he remebers the Luke/Biggs scene from an early NYC screening and I *know* it existed cause I've seen the footage- Luke is wearing his sun hat. Progtologist where are you...do you recall this short-lived scene? It was a looooong time ago in a galaxy far away... Edited by Atavachron - October 28 2006 at 20:33 |

I've read Shatterpoint, The Thrawn Trilogy (books one and tow), and X-Wing: Rouge Squadron. Both Shatterpoint and the Thrawn Trilogy are not only good Star Wars books, but good books in general, especially Shatterpoint, it is masterfully written |

Matthew Stover wrote that. He also wrote(using his full name Matthew Woodring Stover),an excellent and very original sci-fi book called Heroes Die that I am a big fan of. |
