Here is a little more information on the pole label and what they released:

The Pôle label was set up in 1975 per Philippe Besombes and Jean-Louis Rizet to publish their clean opus synthetic and planing by also using the name “Pole”. The Pôle label moreover published several albums of some French free electrons of the Seventies, in particular Fluence, the first album of Pascal Comelade (a title was republished on Back to Schizo), Krig/Volubilis the first album of experiments electroacoustics of the Verto guitarist (alias Jean-Pierre Grasset), and Smooth Sick Lights, the second album of Mahogany Brain, the Free-rock'n'roll group of the poet Michel Bulteau.

Pole was quickly taken again by Tapioca, a label rested by the impossible to circumvent Jean Georgakarakos, called “Karakos”, which had been already illustrated within the famous BYG/Actuel label. It in particular published on Tapioca some recordings of its old knowledge Magma and Gong. “The small new ones” of Telephone left on Tapioca their first 45 turns Hygiaphone/Métro in 1977. Not so “new” that that, makes Jean-Louis Aubert of it had taken part in Ame Its in 1973, group whose some members collaborated with Daevid Allen. The ultimate reference of Tapioca is the second album of Etron Fou Leloublan, the Three Insane' S perdégagnent (With the country of…), produced by 9h17 Productions, i.e. Dupon and its phantoms.

Camizole, another group of the Dupon collective, recorded in November 1977 what was to be its first album, but the Tapioca label stopped its activities at the beginning of 1978. These recordings of Camizole were finally published on Spalax in 1999. Jean Karakos as for him founded Celluloid Records, the Electro label/No Wave/Pop avant-garde, which functioned in close cooperation with Bill Laswell in the Eighties, and will perdura until in the Nineties.

Something people might be interested in, I have been listening to this one a little bit of late:

ARBETE OCH FRITID : ANDRA LP (SWEDEN'71)

Avant-Folk Jazz-Prog

Arbete & Fritid were very much in the Silence-label underground style,comparable to Träd Gräs och Stenar (with whom they shared some bandmembers).The band frequently changed members with cellist and composer Ove Karlsson being the exception.The musicians teaming up in Arbete & Fritid all had a experimental jazz background but were also inspired by avant-garde minimalist composers such as John Cage,Terry Riley and LaMonte Young.But it was the newly awaken interest in Nordic folk music traditions that got the band started in 1969 and it was the bands unique blend of folk music,jazz,rock and avant-garde experiments that made them one of the truly unique bands in the early 70's,long before anyone heard of world music.Arbete & Fritid was one of the most appreciated live acts during the 70's,maybe because you never knew what the concerts were going to be like.It could start off as a rock concert,as a meditative Indian concert,as a vital folk music gig or as an avant-garde jazz night;and before it was all ended you could be sure to have all your preconceptions turned around.These concerts would many times also include some half-crazy vocal tracks,in dadaist tradition.Arbete & Fritid have inspired many other artists to experiment with Nordic folk music and with the nearly 1000 concerts they played they opened a lot of people's minds for music without boundaries.Many of the lengthy jams that made up their gigs were never transformed into records.This is their second album (SONET SLP 2526).

Do we have any more information in this man "PHILIPPE BESOMBES" from memory he might have been the brain behind pole records? What sort of music is this, as I know some of the bands releasing material on the pole records are very much Zeuhl taste.

No I have not talked to him about them yet. I have two to their albums, there first (the one with the funny name) and another one a lot later on. I have not really listened to them much as of yet. Still on the to be listen to pile for the moment. Also I think Yu might be our man if we are wanting to know anything about this band?


Any I think people here might be interested in this, I talked about it before in the RIO thread, but there are many on the list coming up the Zeuhl catagory. THis is a blog which is giving information and uploads on NWW list material.

Also Yu, would you know anywhere which is offering the sale of Hellebore's Vinyl at the moment? As I am very interested in packaging which comes with this record; from your pictures. Or would the best idea to keep my eyes open on ebay and other such places.

I cannot recommend this album enough to others and I must  thank Yu from introducing me to them. I really don't know how this band is so over looked.

Other Verto Review for those interested. From Babyblaue.

1979 appeared the first LP von Nurse With Wound, an avant-garde-experimental formation from Great Britain, which a quite complex mixture from electronics, Industrial music, Musique Concrete, Free jazz, skirt and all kinds of things, which one used up oneself otherwise still in such a way can call in the most distant sound. On the back of its 1979 LP “chance Meeting on A Dissecting Table OF A Sewing Machine and at Umbrella” appeared the three members of the group a list had printed still - which was extended on its next LP (“ton the Quiet Men From A Tiny Girl”, 1980) -, in which approximately 300 albums were specified, which affected the music of the Trios allegedly.

The “Nurse With Wound list” (NWW list) since that time became under collecting tanks from unorthodox sounds to a Standarddiscographie, is nevertheless there so rather all generic term cures disks from the style drawers herb skirt, electronics, Prog, Psychedelik, avant-garde jazz skirt, post office Punk of the 70's and in addition still so quite everything that at freely improvised and experimental sounds in this time one published (the list can be examined e.g. here). A whole number of these albums, particularly from the ranges herb skirt and electronics, are already represented on the baby-blue sides. Much from the Nurse With Wound list is difficult however to today generic term cure and to find, since the respective albums were again-published never, or only in smallest edition, on CD.

The Debut of Verto to this Obskuritäten, appeared belonged the plate nevertheless as far as I know to date not (officially) on CD. The group came from Toulouse and was located in close contact with the formation Potemkine likewise originating from the southwestFrench metropolis. Verto was in principle the guitarist Jean Pierre grass set, which can be accompanied on “Krig/Volubilis” from Potemkine, in particular from Gilles Goubin at the bass. The album appeared 1976 on Paul Puttis Pôle label (see to Besombes - Rizet), however into the 80ern von Tapioca, in quite badly kneel-star-kneeling star that pressing, on LP was again-published.

A quite strange music sets grass set on “Krig/Volubilis” to the listener forward. Somewhere in the frontier of skirt and electronics the whole is settled and by the various E-Gitarrenklängen grass sets is determined. A Synthesizer is not used, as specially on the Cover noted is, anywhere. With “Krig” the disk goes however very zeuhlig loosely. Entire Potemkine occupation comes here to the Einsatzt. On a magma concert would probably not have been noticeable to two bassists grollen and the whole, even if it transforms after few minutes into a diagonal Jazzrocker, negatively. “Et Terre” is then a duo for Fretless bass and E-guitar, denied by Gilles Goubin and grass set. To cutting E-Gitarrenklängen the bass and Goubin wummert vokalisiert in addition (“wa-hectar-haaaa…. wa-hectar-haaaaa”). “Oka” offers then, after the short, etherischen Interludium “Ether”, a psychedelisches Liedchen with Akustikgitarrengeklampfe and the butter-soft bass Goubins, but without text. “Locomo” locks the first LP side. The piece is a driving, nearly funkiges Jazzrocktrio, which by the driven off E-Gitarrenspiel grass set one determines.

The entire second side of the LP belongs then to grass set. Here wabern, roar and to sounds guitar sounds there and in disorder, with resound provided, gelooped and in any way verfremdet. Reminded of the Gitarreneskapaden of a Richard Pinhas (Heldon), is however more krautiger and clearly diagonally guessed/advised. Who estimates herb-industrial union-electronic, a goose skin should get from this music!

We thought it would be appropriate to start keeping a record of our comings and goings. For instance, we have over 60 words for "the angel of light" but not one for "teacake" or "sofabed", and any reference to them has to be accompanied by vigorous miming to get across the meaning successfully.

Later on we're all going to the park, where we're meeting our ex-bassist Jannik Top and playing with his frisbee.



I have looked over that one before, it certainlly did amuse me, a silly sort of sense of humour. Sometimes with the things Mister Vander gets up to, I wouldn't be doubting some of those things I really do wondering if he will ever get that spaceship sorted out?
