Once Again, Everyone Is Everybody Else, Octoberon and XII are all classics. Probably their best from the seventies. You should add BJH Live, though. I can asure BJH did their best there.
It's the only Emi-Polydor "alliance": the album was released in 1974 after Everyone... so you can listen to Summer Soldier, Medicine Man, After the Day and also to The Great 1974 Mining Disaster, Crazy City, For No One... wonderful. Those live version are really a great improvement from the original ones. 
Next to be issued in October the remaster of BJH LIve Tapes (another great live double album of 1978 with bonus tracks. Not at the same level, in my humble opinion).

Yup. I only listened to the bonus songs once but I enjoyed them a lot. After listening to Octoberon twice since my last post, I have to say it is really great! Even better than Once Again by a bit I think. XII is very good as well, it impressed me a lot more than I had expected. I'm not sure what to get next, Short Stories, Everyone, Time Honoured Ghosts, Gone to Earth, and the live album all look good. I'll probably just see what ones I can get cheapest and work from there. I know this might be blasphemy, but I prefer "the poor man's Moody Blues" to the actual Moody Blues.

I still have to buy the remastered Live  but remastered Live Tapes sound also interesting .
Good to notice the success of your thread Andrea, this let evaporate the sarcastic press comment that BJH was just a 'poor man's Moody Blues' ...

I must say, I've always preferred BJH to the Moody Blues, and I like both fans. I think that BJH's work has aged a lot better, certainly their Polydor output still sounds fresh to this day. I think it's because BJH have a less, and I hate to say it, pretentious sound. All that said, The Moody Blues' 'In Search Of The Lost Chord' IS one of my favourites.

I don't know the Moody blues too well but if BJH is just a poor man's Moody Blues i'll have to have all their albums asap. I've been listening to Everyone is everybody else a lot lately and it's a great album.The mellotron in For no one is almost unsurpassed, what a sound!

I used to be quite keen on BJH as a teenager. I loved Nova Lepidoptera but, hearing it again for the first time in 20-odd years, it didn't sound anywhere near as epic or spacy as I remembered it.
I bought the remastered first album and enjoy listening to that now and again. My favourite BJH track has always been Taking Some Time On, probably the least representative song they've ever recorded!

Nearly all of us, regarding this tread, do the same, welcoime to the family of "Octoberon"-Lovers ! When I played the street last night I sang "The World goes on", acoustic guitar & voice only !

Mine it is, too ( from their Studio-output ), together with "Live Tapes" ( one of the best live-albums ever released say I, repeating myself over and over as if i was weird... I am, i guess !

To be honest, in my opinion Barclay James Harvest studio is less powerful and compelling than on stage, especially the keyboards sound live more lush.
What do you think about the DVD featuring their early work? I love that DVD, lots of Mellotron and moving, very flowing guitar solo |

While i totally love Everyone is everbody else by now i have some problems getting into Once again. Do others here feel this album is less accessible than Everyone or is it something else?

These two records are completely different, in fact. Once Again is a more classical "symphonic" opus and rapresents the best of the EMI's (Harvest's) period of the band.
BTW, the opener "She Said" is the most powerful intro ever released by the band.
P.S. and it was written by Les Holroyd...
"Galadriel"'s soft and warm structure do rapresents the BJH's sound!
In conclusion: Once Again seems to be more prog than Everyone... Everyone... is the starting point of a renewed career for the band. So the two records are essential in any BJh's collection.

A fine band and as many have stated their 70's live album was a very impressive offering.But they didn't quite have what it takes to make them a top band but they had some magical moments none better than ' For no one' '

Not "less accessible", only less COMMERCIAL if you ask me. In terms of production/arrangements i even prefer "Once Again" to "Everyone is everybody else", but the latter maybe has even better SONGS ( in quantities... "Mocking Bird", "Galadriel" and "She said" are classics forever ).
A question of taste... as Andrea said, "Everyone is everybody else" was a "new start", it defined the BJH-sound for the years to come in many respects, but if you listen to "She said", this was an "early blueprint" !
