ever heard Amon Düül II, if there aren't resemblences between the two bands I'll eat my hat, Rush uses many influences, and not just on their first four albums, influence continuoes in the 80's and reemerges without being away really in the nineties and still is a part of Rush currently.
Deep purple owes Led Zep a great deal of gratitude for opening their niche, so does uriah heep.
Yes would never have sounded like they did without bands like Led Zep showing the strength of combining electric and accoustic guitars, Jethro Tull would never have created Aqualung or Thick as a brick if it wasn't for their relation with Led Zep.
Of course some of those bands (especially tull) influenced Led Zep also.
but The led zep influence is heard in practically all bands that rose to fame in the early seventies, and it continous to this day.

Led Zep aren't progressive, that's a certainty. (don't bother bringing up individual songs, for that shouldn't cut the cake)
I am in favour of adding them under Prog-related, but solely because of their influence on other bands, so likelyness to Led Zepp is no reason to get in, since being influenced by Led doesn't make a band progressive, it's the influence of Led Zep to already progressive bands that counts.
so an earlier comment about if Cream get's in, so should Led Zeppelin should be discarded as an invalid argument.
and indeed as the post above me says, a vote for non-progressive should be possible also.

Aren't there any "not prog" voting options?

Agreed, I just can't see fit attaching the label "prog" to LZ. I think they did just fine without it, too.

I think the best idea I've heard so far was that of having a separate section for bands and artists like Cream, Led Zep or Hendrix, who, while not being really prog, have had a significant influence on the genre. In my opinion, that would be a better classification than the controversial Proto-Prog, or the far too vague Prog-Related.

I think we have to come up with some simple generic term that says-
Proto Prog (Classic hard rock pioneers who influenced Progressive music in some or other way)
Hopefully in my lifetime

Wise reply Ghost man...the aim of this poll is to get some ideas about it and maybe get some consensus...prog related is obvious and maybe some people could want to lean toward some categories
Come people, vote!
