Mirage, Snow Goose and Moonmadness are classic.

Darkshade - don't waste a minute! Buy A Nod And A Wink - some regard this is their return to "roots".

I've heard that Latimer, Ward and Ferguson made a new material lately. What a surprise! I can't wait to listen to it.
And hats off to Pete Bardens...Unhappy RiP.

Listening to The Snow Goose as I type... what a great album!

New material from the original guys?  This is great news!!!  Where did you hear that?

I've heard this from Camelproductions.

Which do you suggest I buy next ?

OK, you can get Nude as you're already planning to, but you may also enjoy Rajaz or Nod and a Wink.

Their 80's stuff might be weaker than their earlier and later work, but I think it's better than most of the 80's works of other prog greats!

Listened to one song from both Rajaz and Nod & a Wink, and I will get both for sure, after Nude.

I partly agree with camel appeal... their '80's stuff are indeed boring Dead in fact, I'd say even those three you mentioned before are enough for a serious prog collection Wink! They simply lost their magic after Moonmadness, probably due to departure of Doug Ferguson... I really don't understand one man, even an insignificant one in songwriting, can change the style so much.

Nevertheless, I recommend you to have a look at these albums, they are not great IMHO, but I still enjoy them...
self titled debut: especially important to track down the development of this impoırtant band
Harbour of Tears: after a series of dull albums throught the '80's, this is a great refreshment! the style is completely different, and even the music hardly qualifies as "Camel", but a very decent modern times prog album...
Rajaz: Even better than the previous one! Shows close approaching to their classic style... I think it would qualify one of the "prog re-awakening" albums of '99...
Nod and a Wink: I sometimes get bored listening to this (no wonder, I haven't listened to it for over a year!) but the music is by no means bad... "different" at the very best...
Rain Dances: If Moonmadness is the last great Camel album (ideas vary, as you all know Wink!), this one is the last "good" one before Harbour in my book.

P.S. I just checked to confirm Ferguson's name from the band's homepage, and found out what I have just written matches up with the original info given for the band! Even the representative albums, which are determined automatically by ratings!!! check it out: http://www.progarchives.com/Progressive_rock_discography_BAND.asp?band_id=50
in Turkish we have a saying which roughly translates: Way of reason is one LOL!
Listen to Turkish psych/prog; you won't regret:
Baris Manco,Erkin Koray,Cem Karaca,Mogollar,3 Hürel,Selda,Edip Akbayram,Fikret Kizilok,Ersen (and Dadaslar) (but stick with the '70's, and 'early 80's!)

It wasn't the departure of Doug Ferguson alone what changed their style; it was the inclusion of Richard Sinclair that gave the band another direction. A direction I really enjoy as much as the previous line up, btw! Wink

In other words, the departure of a non-songwriting member and the arrival of an active songwriter will definitely change the style of a band!

For being bored of Camel?

That doesn't sound very wise to me

You can get bored of anything...

Camel seems more likely, especailly when you eventually move into more avant-garde genres... I admit I still enjoy their first four albums + more recent material; but I simply don't have the desire to listen to them (even the magnificent Moonmadness) unless I have a stimulator... Like this thread; after I posted I went home and listened from Harbour of Tears onwards Wink

Camel, in my opinion was great with Ferguson. When Sinclair came into the band it was just as good as before, it just had a different (more complex and cultured) style. I prefer Rain Dances to The Snow Goose in all honesty. It's all a matter of perspective.

Camel is one of my favorite bands.  I like everything from the first album up through Rain Dances.  Of the newer ones I ilke Rajaz, The Paris Collection, and A Nod and a Wink.  Melody is what I find most attractive in any music (which is a bit ironic because I have been a drummer for almost all my life).  Camel's music is beautifully melodic.  Peace.

I just got a Camel cd. I got Moonmadness on a recommendation and I love it. Soon I will get Snow Goose and Mirage. After that, I don't know.

Don't hate them but honestly Camel works as Ativan with me, sends me to sleep.

I tried, honestly I tried to like them, bought the self toitled and Moonmadnes but both are plain boring for my taste.

I really don't like to disloike Prog bands but taste is something hard to control.

I've been on a Camel kick lately. I have Never Let Go and Breathless on order, but did get A Live Record, Coming Of Age--both are tremendous. The ones I have are Mirage, Moonmadness, Snowgoose, Rain Dances, Stationary Traveler, and A Nod And A Wink.

Now, we are traveling to Wisconsin for Christmas and plan to hit Rush Mor Records on Wednesday. Guys, if you ever go to Milwaukee, you have to go to Rush Mor. The owner is a prog nut and specializes in stocking good prog (I spent $150 there last year). I've contacted them and they do have Camel's remastered debut and Nude in stock...which I'm buying. Hoping to get a Camel DVD, too.

I like Camel. I think it may be my favorite symphonic prog band from the 70's. I'm thinking in ordering A Live Record this christmas if there's money left from all of my mom's shopping raves.

Their recent studio albums are also great.  A Nod and a Wink, Rajaz, The Harbour of Tears are all excellent albums. I personally enjoy A Nod and a Wink more since it sounds very playful like music for one's childhood or something similar.

Anyways, great band. Thumbs Up

I gotta be missing something.

I really mean it.

Man... My buddy Ray Kazinski wuz trying to get me into these guys in 75'.

I've had SG and MM since they were new records.

I tried. I really did. I even got stoned out of my gourd a few times and tried to like them.

Boring. Boring. Boring. Sounds like a bunch of cats who can't cut the mustard as a fusion band.

Sorry. I'm going to try again soon. Last try approx. Oct. 2006.

Still sounded like dreadful fusion band.

Maybe your missing the ability to like it. It was weird for my first listen but I liked it after that. I guess it was because no one was trying to get me to like it and I was not expecting anything.

Camel in my eyes is one of the giants of prog. I prefer them to Yes, and I enjoy Latimers extensive array of styles and cultures. The first four were fantastic, and even the transitional albums were excellent. "Song Within a Song" "The Snow Goose" and "Unevensong" are all classics. I'd say my favorite albums are Rain Dances and the more recent Rajaz. Camel still produces excellent music today. They are definately up to the caliber of giants like The Moody Blues, Genesis, Pink Floyd, ELP, and Gentle Giant.
