 . Also I don't know if you have read the Eider Stellaire thread but some great information in there.
I will have to try and get my hands on the DVD sometime, planing on going to Japan sometime next year so this could be one of the many things I pick up. I adore the Lacrymosa album I have and this is why I am so interested. I have heard Golden Avant-garde sited as Jazz fusion with zeuhl leanings. I know honganji (another member here) should know the answer to this question. So hopefully we have some luck. Don't worry about being out of depth, your have a great knowledge of this kind of music. It is not every day you run into another people who likes The Flying Luttenbachers. Also I'm sure there is much you can teach us about the Japanese scene.
With Japan it is a long shot but I am hoping to make it there, it would be Osaka. How is Osaka for the concerts and purchase of albums? |

I've never ventured as far as Osaka but from what I hear it is a great city. Gigs wise, again I'm unsure. One of my favourite bands 'Strawberry Song Orchestra' are from Osaka and regularly play live there (also they have 4 female singers an' one is a right little minx...) An' not forgetting The Boredoms
Tokyo is a much better shout. Koenji Hyakkei, Bondage Fruit, Acid Mothers all play live regularly (saw Bondage Fruit 5 times last year). In the last 2 years we've had Zao, Magma, PFM, Area, Gong, and various others chasin' the yen. Very strong progressive scene in Japan. More to life than prog tho'. Doesn't matter where you live in Japan just take a walk and admire the ladies |

good luck with that.
I will definately have to keep the Boredoms in mind. I also would love to see Acid Mothers Temple live, I have seen lots of footage and they are just amazing. I will have to see if I can make my way down to Tokyo sometime though as it seems like the place to be.... for many reasons

Caught the Boredoms once here an' it was a mind-blower of a show ! Rather not go into detail on this as one was off ones tits that night an' did some things I wanna forget...
Bear in mind B V that Osaka is a huge city ! 3 million odd (factor in the male population still leaves a lot of eye-candy) And there must be the odd record shop knockin' around Incidentally, I read somewhere that they can't decide if Tokyo has 12 million or 30 million residents. Quite a discrepancy |

When I was out there I lived in Nagoya. Quite a few good gigs, including King Crimson on The Power To Believe tour, and a thriving music scene - I believe Acid Mothers Temple are based somewhere in the general vicinity.
Osaka's a really interesting city, can't say I know it that well but it always attracts the major tours by foreign rock bands and it has a network of live houses to rival Tokyo. It also boasts the world's largest aquarium, which is worth a visit.
The population discrepancy with Tokyo is between Tokyo itself and greater Tokyo - the city has basically swallowed up a lot of the surrounding area, so waht were seperate towns and cities have basically become endless suburbs.
I loved my time in Japan, and I may well return at some point in the future.

I heard a few songs a while back, but at the time didn't hit me as overly special, so no extensive research was undertaken. Will have to give them another try sometime since you recommend them. Yes swingZeuhl could be a nice reference, though I have heard them sited as Japanese Klezmer-Bulgarian-Punk-Jazz band with is a bit of mouth full

Unaware of that DVD B V but will try an' look into it !
Cicala Mvta's "Ghost Circus" ! I forgot the title as I put it straight on MD. If you only chance one then this is it. Yoshida's Track 4 is really special ! I only saw them the once an' they had 3 exotic an' very sexy Japanese Belly Dancers on stage with them. Warmed to them immediately ha ! I know they play live outside Japan quite often so if you get the chance don't hesitate ! Party atmosphere. PartyZeuhl ? Probably as good a description as any ! I've been out drinkin' with Yoshida a fair few times (hear that name-drop !) an' he puts 'em away at the same speed as his drum fills. Superhuman geezer. |

Haha... nothing like some old name dropping, first name basis too
 . It doesn't surprise about Yoshida people as prolific as him usually take that approach on all aspects of their lives.
Can across this album yesterday and have played it over once so far. Kousokuya - 1st From first listen it seems quite good, I have heard it site as on pare with Fush*tsusha work so this intreged me. Have you heard any of their material what do you think? |

Only what I've heard on PSF label's 'Tokyo Flashback' series.
(PSF=Psychedelic Speed Freaks ha) Most of these bands make Blue Cheer sound like The Cardigans. Great in small doses ! |

As an aside, my old boss used to be the original drummer in the ultra-mysterious Les Rallies DesNudes/Hadaka no Rallies ! Right miserable sod he is.
Ok, back on zeuhl. Can anyone answer my earlier question about the best version of Kohntarkosz I ever heard ? The bootleg is on the world-renowned 'Kisses Deluxe' (Kiss No.11) label and Kohntarkosz is 33mins32. Claims to be recorded at Reims, France in Mars (March May ? ! My French is pitiful haha) 2nd, 1976. The sound quality is all over the shop but it really adds to the tension ! Surely not the same as the 7th Records release ? ! |

just had a listen to 000 (Triple Zero) 'Crypto Sensus' again and what a brutal, harsh, piece of electronicazeuhl ! Should appeal to fans of Shub Niggurath (some ex-Shub members here) and The Boredoms. similar in atmosphere to VisionCreationNewsun but with absolutely nothing in the way of melody. Has anyone been fortunate to catch 'em live ? (assuming they play live hehe) |

No, It seems unforunate that I have not even heard anything at all about this band. But they definately seem to be something I would be interested in. Considering the links to Shub Niggurath and Boredoms. I have been looking for bands like the Boredoms (other than the obvious ones) for a while now. So I will try and see what I can do about getting to know these guys a little better. Do you know which members from Shub are present?
I know they are not really Zeuhl but I though this would be the place to ask. What do people think of the band Datetenryu? I have been listening to one of their albums tonight and it seems quite good in places though I was a bit turned off by some of the cheese scattered throughout the album. |

(...comes back with the stolen goodies) 03-November-2001 Crypto Sensus The few lucky souls among you privy to knowledge about France's demonic avant-prog behemoth Shub Niggurath will know firsthand that precious little in the annals of music history can compete with them for sheer soul crushing menace. That this post-Shub unit (featuring two former members) have jettisoned the overt malevolence and fearsome, forbidding gravity of their former ensemble is intriguing. That they've supplanted it with a disorienting exercise in freewheeling psychedelic abandon is just completely enthralling. Flanked by Edward Perraud's roiling percussive onslaught and Vincent Sicot-Vantalon's swooping, keening electronics, Frank-William Fromy catapults his pulverizing lexicon of Fripp-addled acid axwork in blazing arcs across his bandmates expansive wide-angle architecture in a way that sound like nothing so much as the b*****d love child of Fripp's post-Red-era Crimson jams on Exposure and the Boredoms' latter-day lysergic space trekking. On paper, this might sound like an awkward proposition. On the right sort of paper, however (the kind that comes in perforated sheets), it sounds like an epiphany. Though there's enough coruscating guitar mayhem encoded within these attenuated, adrenalized plains to sate the palate of any listener with a yen for the ferocious and foreboding, those of you who are constitutionally predisposed to swoon in the presence of psychotropic excess will be falling all over yourselves with this soundtrack for the serotonin deprived.
