If I'm in a mellow mood, Epsilon In Malaysian Pale by Edgar Froese.

If I need to give my ears a real battering, The Devil's Triangle by King Crimson.

Autumn by the Strawbs: excellent example of their peculiar mellotron drenched classic compositions.

Of the newer bands I would like to recommend an italian band that has just released their magnum opus:

La Maschera di Cera is the band, LuxAde is the wonderful album, rich of great keyboards, synths and, above all, MELLOTRON!!

I never recommend enough this band. Fortunately there are many strong supporters, here (Erik in primis).
