Spock's Beard, Morse's solo output has been increasingly pretentious laiden with scores of chistian undertones that detract from the quality of the music. However, even Morse-era SB has similar references within their music like Snow and Day for Night but more subtle compared to Morse solo material.

Neal Morse is making some great prog right now, regardless of the Christian themes.SB isn't even prog anymore, just a band playing some simple, uninspired hard rock.

Definitely Morse. The new SB albums are pretty good, but ? and One are a lot better (don't have Testimony yet).

<<chistian undertones that detract from the quality of the music>>
Absolutely ludicrous! Just admit that you don't like it because it's singing about the glories of God. Oh, how awful!! The man should be flogged and forced to watch Desperate Housewives.
Neal has increasingly gotten better with every subsequent release. I do like Octane; but, Neal was the genius of the band.

I love the new direction of Spock´s Beard. The band sounds much tighter and Nick has a better range as a vocalist.

I'm big fan of Neal Morse, he is a genius and one of the most imporatant persons of neo-prog.. but.. since Snow, he is too formulatic for me and very little interesting. I'm sorry to say, I'm must admit I' bored of most of his newer stuff (even Question Mark has its moments). Spock's Beard on Octane have found their new sound, and they seems far more fresh and interesting.. though I prefer Spock's with Neal.

i definitely can't vote in this poll, as it's not so "black-and white". First 5 albums by Spock's beard are very good but no masterpieces. "Snow" is weaker, probably because it's too long. Testimony by Neal Morse is probably one of the best albums that year and very close to be considered a masterpices. "One" and "?" are not bad but weaker than early Spock's Beard. Two Christian albums by Neal Morse are awful, and so are latest Spock's Beard opuses. Hence, really, any vote in this poll would be wrong IMO.
However if "now" in poll questions means "?" by NM comparing to "Octane" by SB, in this case Neal Morse wins it for me by miles.

Morse has got an advantage because he has guests like Rudess and Portnoy on his albums, so I really can't say it's fair to compare these two. Comparing Transatlantic and Neal Morse would be a little more fair.

Nick can play some drums too although I think Neal's stuff is better mixed. I like both. I just saw Spock's a couple of months ago and they were great. Anyone who thinks they sound bad without Neal needs to listen to Gluttons for Punishment. I want to see Neal live soon if he ever books an American gig. I think that some of the new SB stuff is different and I think that has to do with Alan getting more up front in the mix. A much harder edge to it. I have no problem at all with the christian or non christian themes of either artsit. I think if people do they have their own hangups to deal with because this is good music well played. I actually enjoy the story Neal layed out in ?. The music is dramatic and Steve Hackett plays a fantastic guitar solo in the track called 12.
I am looking forward to new music from both.
