Topic: Star Trek vs. Star Wars Posted: December 01 2006 at 20:46 |
I'm deeply torn when it comes to this question; Star Trek is my first love but Lucas did something so extraordinary with Star Wars that, if I must choose, I guess it would be SW. Also, the newer TV Star Trek shows and movies bite the big one. Having said that, I see how much Lucas got from Roddenberry in addition to much other sci-fi and myth.

I'm not voting, the score is fine by me, I love them both. Btw are there any fans of Stargate SG1 (not the Atlantis stuff) around here?

Couldn't resist the urge to make it 50-50. I like both equally.

Even though I REALLY dig the original Star Wars trilogy, I easily vote for Star Trek. For the original series, The Next Generation, Voyager, and all ST movies (well, maybe except Star Trek V - The Final Frontier which I did not enjoy).

I rank Revenge of the Sith right alongside The Empire Strikes Back, which is the best Star Wars film of them all IMO.

Star Wars rules! It is the best modern myth ever!

I love both, but the two series are completely different.
Star Trek is true "science fiction," in that science and technology are more central to the premise, plots, storylines, etc. Star Wars is a "space fantasy," in that, while science and technology are certainly involved, they are not central to the story.
If taken as complete concepts (including TV series, films, books, etc), I would have to give Star Wars the edge, since the first dozen or so books that followed the first three films (i.e., Episodes IV, V and VI) go deeply into the cosmology and psycho-spirituality that are central to the stories, while Star Trek has always been more about "singular" stories that do not necessarily "connect" to each other.
Still, I love both equally for different reasons. No vote from me.
Peace.

Sorry to say but I pefer Star Wars overall by a hell of a lot. IMO there have been only two good stories in Star Trek, The Next Generation and Voyager. I really like The Next Generation movies, especially First Contact, the rest of Star Trek is too cheesy for me.

Star Wars for me of course.I could never really get into ST.It was too dry and clinical, everything seemed very antiseptic.I like the grittiness and grunginess of SW,plus there are some awesome characters in the SW saga. |
Ya, I'll admit it, the SW characters are way cooler than the ones on ST.

The orriginal Star Trek series was great, and possibly inspired one of our favorite music genres, Psycedelic/Space Rock.
The orriginal 60's show was well ahead of its time, opening the minds of all, ages young to old. It pushed the limits of creativity and special effects, and proved you don't need good acting to have a great show. Ofcourse, Star Trek The Next Generation did have supreme actors.
Star Wars lost this longtime fan once the new movies came.
The harder question I think to ask would be, "Which one has the most fans?"
