Topic: "Per Un Amico" Vs "L'Isola Di Niente" Posted: July 20 2006 at 06:46 |
I think both albums are great;
among the most interesting ones in prog music history. These records are able
to compete with magnificent albums of Yes, King Crimson, Pink Floyd etc. Excellent
abilities of musicans, plenty of wonderful music ideas, interesting vocals...
In my opinion “Per Un Amico” is
slighty better than “L’Isola Di Niente”. “Per Un Amico” is work of art without poor
moments. All compositions are outstanding.
I think the most fascinating track
on “L’Isola Di Niente” is title song: superb chorus, guitars, atmosphere. I
wish other compositions were as good as title track. However there are very interesting
and worth mentioning

Per Un Amico. I also prefer Storia di un minuto over L Isola.

Exactly what I was going to say. "L'isola" is very good, but the other two are just outstanding

Even Though “Per Un Amico” is
slighty better, “L’Isola Di Niente” in my opnion has the band in its
best moments, perhaps a not so fantastic album but a fantastic band...
one of the best bass player joined the band Patrick Djivas... and the
first song is a masterpiece...

I think Isola is clearly one notch below Per un Amico and Storia.

Repeating what others have said L'Isola is good but Per Un Amico just towers above the rest IMO.

Per Un Amico was my first Italian prog album and the main reason I became a rabid fan of Italian Symphonic Prog. That album is very special to me.

When I was a little boy back in the 70's I got a copy of PFM Photos of Ghosts and it was magically wonderfull! It still ranks high in my all time best prog albums. So I must vote Per Un Amico.

Here am I, Zbigniew, just connected to the site!
Raffaella I think she's still in England now, so we have to wait for some days further.
About the poll I have to say Per un Amico is a step above L'Isola di Niente, even if also that album is outstanding and memorable.

I only own Per un Amico at the moment and I love it. L'isola Di Niente is at the top of my "to buy" list. Judging from what I've heard from PFM so far I'm sure I won't be dissappionted.

Speaking of Premiata Forneria Marconi, I've just discovered that american band Hands did a cover version of Celebration in early 70s, and album containing this song is not included on PA
