 Topic: larks tongues in aspic

To be honest I have never heard this the album LTIA all the way through, although I have heard parts 1,2,3, and 4 live numerous times. In your opinion (for those who consider this the best crimson album), why is this album the cult favorite? Why does LTIA come out on top over ITCOTCK?

I just really like the overall sound of it. A very Drum, Bass dominated album.
And The Talking Drum, Lark's 1 and Larks 2 are just amazing! I think so anyway. And the violin work is superb. and i love me some Violin.

A very good album. LTIA has my favorite KC line-up. Easy Money is the stand out for me.

LTIA is my favourite Crimson album. Every track on it is great, particularly the opener.
As for why it beats ITCOTCK, I submit exhibit A: The last 9 or so minutes of Moonchild.

The end of Easy Money is always a pleasure for me! However, as previously said, LTiA parts 1 and 2 and The Talking Drum are masterful. The way they go from quiet to noisey too, it's not an album to play at a party or when you have guests!

I think it's question of styles. If one likes harmonic, symphonic music, their first album pleases him more. But if you get interested about avantgarde music, Larks' Tonques in Aspic offers much more powerful experience. I like the ideas and compositions on that album, but the aggressive tunes got bit flat in the studio in my opinion, and I prefer to listen them from some of their live recordings. "Book of Saturday" and "Exiles" are wonderful recordings though.

Brilliant album! Almost as great as their debut. If you liked LTIA Part 1 & 2, get this album for sure!

It's the quintaessential KC album. On this album they finally found their definitive sound. If somebody asked me what is KC about, I would let him listen to Larks Tongues In Aspic part II.

I won't go into a detailed explanation. I will just relate how I came to this album. For roughly 20 years, ItCotCK was the only KC album I had ever heard. I hadn't even heard any other songs. A few years back, I found a copy of LTIA at the library. It absolutely blew me away. It sounded so different, but yet definitely Crimson. After I was comfortable with it (and in love with it), I set out to find more. In almost no time, KC became one of my favorite bands. The only albums I don't like are "Beat," and ToaPP. LTIA opened it up for me. It is a fantastic album. Try listeneng to the whole thing.

Not really. I love my RIO and avant-garde, but I find ITCOTKC to be superior and Island to be at the same caliber as ITCOTKC. Larks might be my 4/5 favorite King Crimson album with The power to belive in solid third place.

To my mind, it's one of the more even KC albums - ie, there aren't any tracks I'm tempted to skip (cf M**nch*ld, Pr*v*d*nc* & the fiddly farty little tracks from Thr*k).
It's a real shame Fripp couldn't hang on to Jamie Muir for another album or two..........I think he's a large part of why LTIA still works....

^ I think Fripp hadn't much role on Muir's departure? That event was analysed further on SID SMITH's book, anybody recall about it?
