For me it's easily Star Trek. I think the Star Wars films are massively overrated and recent entries like The Phantom Menace were average to say the least. The Star Trek franchise has two classic television series (the original 60s series and "Star Trek: The Next Generation") as well as the series "DS9" and "Voyager", and classic movies like "The Wrath of Khan", "The Voyage Home", and "First Contact."

Any thoughts on this?

I voted Star Trek it's just a much more real and serious as far as movies go.  Star Wars definately has a strong case for it's video games though!

Didn't we already have a poll like this before?

Star Wars. Both are geeky, but Star Trek has an insurmountable amount of geekieness. Geek

Trek is much more thought provoking. There also seems to be ample consideration of the fan base. Star Wars would be a lot closer if it weren't for "The Phantom Menace" and "Attack of the Clones." The franchise would have been better off if those movies had never been made.

The orriginal Star Trek series was great, and possibly inspired one of our favorite music genres, Psycedelic/Space Rock.

The orriginal 60's show was well ahead of its time, opening the minds of all, ages young to old. It pushed the limits of creativity and special effects, and proved you don't need good acting to have a great show. LOL Ofcourse, Star Trek The Next Generation did have supreme actors. Clap

Star Wars lost this longtime fan once the new movies came. Dead

The harder question I think to ask would be, "Which one has the most fans?" Confused

I am heavily into the EU.

Star Wars for me of course.I could never really get into ST.It was too dry and clinical, everything seemed very antiseptic.I like the grittiness and grunginess of SW,plus there are some awesome characters in the SW saga.

Ya, I'll admit it, the SW characters are way cooler than the ones on ST. Embarrassed

Sorry to say but I pefer Star Wars overall by a hell of a lot. IMO there have been only two good stories in Star Trek, The Next Generation and Voyager. I really like The Next Generation movies, especially First Contact, the rest of Star Trek is too cheesy for me.

I love both, but the two series are completely different.

Star Trek is true "science fiction," in that science and technology are more central to the premise, plots, storylines, etc.  Star Wars is a "space fantasy," in that, while science and technology are certainly involved, they are not central to the story.

If taken as complete concepts (including TV series, films, books, etc), I would have to give Star Wars the edge, since the first dozen or so books that followed the first three films (i.e., Episodes IV, V and VI) go deeply into the cosmology and psycho-spirituality that are central to the stories, while Star Trek has always been more about "singular" stories that do not necessarily "connect" to each other.

Still, I love both equally for different reasons.  No vote from me.

Peace.
