I agree with this. Only favourites can be voted, mine is Yes BTW.
Floyd, Gentle Giant, VDGG are missing from the list, just to name two. |
Yes, it is difficult to count to three.

I voted for KC, because I like them best (at least atm). I could have
voted for Yes or ELP or Genesis or whatever, because this poll won't
prove anything but what opinions people have. There can't really be one
progband that is best. Look at the selection of bands there is. They're
all very different. It's so hard to compare them, they all have their
style of prog, and they all do it very good. Besides, a lot of great
bands are left off the list, such as Harmonium or many of the great
Italian bands (Banco, Le Orme etc.).

I think that the KING CRIMSON expresses better my concept of the prog, but I love a lot of the prog band over cited.

I'm a firm believer in the philosophy of a ruling class. Especially since I rule.

Strange list; none of my favorite bands are on them. No Van der Graaf
Generator, no Hawkwind, no Gong, no Magma, no Can, no Amon Düül 2... I
could continue this list. All of these bands are in my opinion a lot
better than the listed ones. Rush never made it that big in Germany, by
the way, at least not in the prog scene; in fact before I came to this
site I thought they were a hardrock band (after listening to the
examples of them in the archives I must say my assessment was not far
off the mark ).

For me there's no "best" prog band. Each has songs/albums that I like and others that I don't like. I voted King Crimson because that's what I'm listening to at the moment.

Yes have recorded the best prog albums ever: YES ALBUM, CTTE, TALES, RELAYER. Therefore they get my vote!
Second in rank could only be JETHRO TULL, who have recorded perhaps twice or three times as many great albums as GENESIS!
Third in line would be GENESIS, because of SELLING ENGLAND, THE LAMB and ToTT.
After that it gets more complicated. I guess KING CRIMSON have been one of the most original and influential prog bands around, but many of my favourite prog albums are by Zappa, Caravan, National Health (OF QUEUES AND CURES!), Bruford and Kenso...

I voted 15 times for Genesis...I think this page has some problem! Anyway I would have liked to overcome ELP at least, but I thought it was stupid in this way... Where are Van der Graaf Generator?
