I voted for his beginning period, and Im really surprised about being the only one. In these years he made three masterpieces that should be in every top 100 of most memorable rock albums.
I'm certainly not saying I don't like his other albums! Hot Rats, Over-nite Sensation, One Size Fits All,....he's made an endless list of classics. Without any doubt I can say he's the greatest musical genius of the twentieth century (and I don't see anyone like him standing up in the 21st century!)

73 - 75 by a mile.
69 - 72 has some of my favourite albums (Hot Rats, Waka Jawaka & Grand Wazoo), but it also has those awful 'Flo & Eddie' albums.

Surely ROXY AND ELSEWHERE, ONE SIZE FITS ALL and IN NEW YORK (all from the 1973-1975 period, if I'm not mistaken) are among the most imaginative prog albums ever recorded, anywhere?

In the musical wasteland that was the 1980's, Frank and a handfull of others (King Crimson, Steve Morse... ) saved Prog music from Death By Formulaic Suffocation. It was during this time that the Maestro gave us such masterpieces as "Shut Up 'N Play Yer Guitar" (et all), Jazz From Hell, and Them Or Us. While his myriad contributions are incalculable, for the sake of this poll I must give it up to the Zappa of the 80's.
