Topic: Why Aren't These Artist Progressive Posted: April 22 2006 at 15:07 |
I have been looking through the PA Artist List and I am wondering why the following artist aren't considered Progressive?
Wouldn't the following artist have the sub genre
David Bowie - Art Rock
Planet P - Art Rock
7th Wave - Prog Related
Greenslade - symphonic
Jefferson Airplane - Psychedelic
Magna Carta - Symphonic
Angelzoom - Neo
Armeggedon - Proto Prog
10cc - prog related
thanks

I can strangle a canary in a tin can and it would be really original, but that wouldn't save it from sounding like utter sh*t.

The reason some of these aren't includec is that PA isn't finished yet. Band additions are an ongoing process.

Nice friendly answer BePinkTheater.....
You can make suggestions in the Bands and albums forum. Several of these have been discussed.
BTW - Greenslade IS in the archives.

No, Bowie failed to be accepted as an entry on PA.

Any of those artists would be better than Rhapsody, who is on the archives.

Concerning about Bowie, it is hard, because his first albuns could be
qualified as Proto-Prog, while some efforts from seventies could be
listed as maybe art rock, for example, some works with Eno. But there
are some albuns between these periods that couldnīt be classified as
prog neither prog related.
Thatīs why collabs probably refuse his entry. Though Space Oddity and
Low, for example, fit well in one prog genre, most of his most famous
albuns (Hunky Dory, Ziggy Stardust, Alladinīs Sane, Diamond Dogs, Young
Americans, Letīs Dance, etc) canīt be considered prog.
Queen isnīt much proggier, but A Night at the Opera, A Day at the
Races, News of the World, which are among their most famous efforts,
can easily be considered art rock.
This is the main advantage of Queen over Bowie

I feel the complete opposite....I think Rhapsody is an Extremely Progressive Band...But thats just me.
Then again I find alot of Power Metal bands to be Progressive.

I'm a huge power metal fan but I can't imagine Rhapsody being
considered progressive. What do you think is progressive about them?

If any metal band needs to be on this site that isn't, it would be Iron
Maiden way before Rhapsody. They pretty much define melodic metal
where bands such as Rhapsody and Helloween would probably not exist.

COLDPLAY
They sort of sound proggy to me, especaially after listening to their latest CD, X&Y. The song "Clocks" from their last album, A Rush Of Blood To The Head, hinted progressive to me with it's piano riff.
I've seen them in concert and they were great. Drummer Will Champion ( who also sings and plays keyboard) reminds me of a younger Phil Collins. Whether you like them or not, their style seems to be heading (or already is) in the Art or Prog direction. Agree? Disagree?

PA should include KTU on the list, which includes Trey Gunn, Pat Mastelotto, Kosminen and Pohjonen, from King Crimson and Kluster.
Search and listen to the album 8 Armed Monkey (Live), which combines a mix of avant-garde, world beat, and jazz, and it can fit perfectly under the category RIO/Avant-Prog or Prog Related if neccesary.
