Topic: Just saying hello! Posted: April 12 2006 at 11:13 |
Hi guys,
Long time prog fan, but I've only recently discovered this site and
what a great one it is! I stumbled here when looking for some new
music to listen to.
I started listening to Marillion back in the early 80s after seeing
them on the old grey whistle test. Got hugely into them, then I
went to university and walked past some guy's room in the halls of
residence and saw he had a huge record collection.
He then introduced me to IQ, Pendragon, Pallas, Genesis, Pink Floyd and
Saga (odd collection I know!). Man was I hooked and have been for
the past 20 odd years.
I guess this makes me a neo-prog fan more than the traditional stuff of old.
My current listening line up includes Arena (I know Clive Nolan gets a
lot of stick, but I'm a sucker for his music and his spin-off bands!),
Ayreon, Evergrey, Dream Theatre, Mostly Autumn, Karnataka and
Iona. Those last 2 bands produce music to DIE for in my opinion.
As a result of finding this site and reading the forums and reviews I
also just got into Ambeon, Kayak, Porcupine Tree and Stream Of Passion
(Arjen - gotta love him!). So I thank you all for that!
An old friend of mine and fellow proghead once described what he looked
for in great music and it's always stuck with me. "I look for
music that produces a Wall Of Sound". Hope that makes some kind of
sense!
Andy

Welcome, I'm new too.

My avatar is the vocalist of glam rock/brit pop band Suede (aka the London Suede in USA). They were once good before the guitarist left the band. Albums to hear: self titled debut and 'Dog Man Star.'
