Although the concept of this album is based around things as powerful as death, money, and madness, I still find this album unusually uplifting, Particulalry 'Breathe' and 'Eclipse'

I never considered it depressing, And so I was taken aback when I read that some people couldn't listen to it as it was too depressing! Now that's madness!

How do you find the album?

A bit of both to be honest..

It's a very dark album IMO, but there are some 'uplifting' moments. 'Time' is very uplifting - despite the depressing nature of the lyrics, as is the chorus to 'Us and Them'

I also love instrumental section of 'Money' The sax, and Gilmours guitar solo really sends a shiver through me.

Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

Same as you. The only track I find sort of depressing (though nothing compared to other songs) is Us and Them. But stuff like Time, Money, Any Colour you Like, etc. Not depressing at all. The tracks you mentioned are so unfiting with the message, but hey, who cares, it's pink floyd.

I think that it is a dark album but with some humor in it like "new car caviar four star day dream I think I'll buy a football team." I would say, it's purpose is to be uplifting with each side ending with an uplifting gospel-like song.

It was the first Floyd record I ever heard. It's one of the few albums that I never tire of. It is deppresing yes but is so well put together and produced that I can't see anyone not liking at least some of the album. It's also way ahead of it's time as far as prog music goes at that time 33 years ago.

Neither, or maybe a bit of both. I don't think it's really that depressive, though, so I voted for uplifting.

it is the the greatest album ever recorded & i have great memories of it, but it makes me feel that i want to be on my own & run away from everything!! i bought it the day it was released! it used to make me feel great but now i would have to say depressed! But i must say the depressive feel i get now makes me feel good!

Uplifting, absolutely.

It gets me depressed, but only in the sense that life in itself can be tragic at times.

But the end reminds me that we're all in it together, so it makes me feel hopeful again.

It's like a Greek tragedy; when I'm done listening to it, I feel purged emotionally and spiritually.

I've always found Floyd's stuff to be uplifiting all around mostly because of the beauty of the composition when you hear it.  They don't do gut wrenching, cathartic stuff like Marillion or Pain of Salvation.  When Floyd was new to me, those albums always got me feeling good.

Yeah I like now the music isn't exerted --- Floyd really doesn't have to do anything special to change the way you feel.

Musically uplifting. Lyrically - dark and forboding, but perhaps not quite depressing.

I find The Wall to be depressing.

Maybe when it reaches "Brain Damage" it´s kind of depressing, but the other songs are defintely uplifting, in "Eclipse" for example.... "Money" , "Great gig in the sky"...

Definitely uplifting, at least for me!

Uplifiting, except for Time. I don't think that the majority of Floyd is depressing; Waters just had some serious mental issues or something. The Wall and TFC would be, except that I find it impossible to take the depressing lyrics seriously.

For me, upifting. Anyway, after WYWH, the rest of Floyd is rather depressing, IMO.

I may find it depressing, but it's still an amazing album.
