I thought the same thing when I saw the title.
As for this thread, how can you vote for either? They are two completely
different type of prog bands. I'm a bigger genesis fan but I won't compare
them with rush.

"Judge not this race by it's empty remains"
Genesis should be judged for everything they did from Trespass to W&W, judging them for ABACRAP or Invisible Touch would not only be absurd but inapropiate for this site, because those are not Prog' albums, and IMO is not Genesis, because three and later two out of 5 members doesn't represent the band.
Do you judge Yes for Close to the Edge or for Big Generator?
Rush IMO never released an album near the stature of Foxtrot or The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway.
Iván
BTW: Genesis has not been crap for the lasyt 9 years, GENESIS DOESN'T OFFICIALLY EXIST SINCE SEPTEMBER 2, 1997.
IMO GENESIS DOESN'T EXIST SINCE NOVEMBER 1977 WHEN THEY RELEASED THE BUTCHERED SECONDS OUT.

Strange poll. The differences being bigger than the similarities. My vote to Genesis.

Absolutely. I find seconds out to be a repulsive listen.

I voted for Rush, as I vastly prefer them to Genesis. In fact, as I have said on several occasions, I've never been a big Genesis fan, though SEBTP is one of my all-time favourite albums. On the other hand, Genesis have undoubtedly been much more influential in the world of prog rock. Still, it's Rush for me, I'm afraid.

It's really hard for me to make a good choice... I love either Genesis or Rush. Two different styles of prog music

Though I love Genesis, Rush has been around far longer, released more
material, and have been consistently better IMO. Genesis hasn't really
released a decent album since Wind and Wuthering in '77, whereas Rush
has put out several decent or very good releases in the past twenty
years.

a big...pffff to that...
since we are a progressive forum.... anything Genesis did past W&W
is for the poparchives... and anything past Permanent Waves should be
in AORarchives...
Why was Counterparts so heralded upon it's release... because Rush fans
(I was one at the time) wanted a return to their earlier sound.
Rush in the 80's is nothing to crow over... even their 90's stuff is ok
at best.
Genesis on any and all counts on progressive terms....

Easy, Genesis masterpieces SEBTP, Foxtrot, Trespass, ATOTT, Peter gabriel, Steve Hackett!!!! (eventhough love Duke), epics Supper's ready, Firth of Fifth, The Musical box, among others.
Rush, good musicianship Neil peart drumming and Lifeson's guitar. Nice instrumentals YYZ, La villa strangiato, etc. Geddy Lee....great bass playing, but that feminine childish voice annoys me. need to turn the sound system off when the witch starts singing. because of this I choose genesis, I enjoy listening to them. The witch singing simply a torture!!!

now i really cannot, i love them both very much, they fill different rooms of my hearts. however, i am happier with rush because they produced more music recently. But on the other hand, trespass is one of my most beloved opuses. to conclude, i do not voice.

Depends on what I'm in the mood for.
There's no way I could decide between these two.
In fact, if I could only take one of them to a Desert Island, I would take neither. I'd rather be without BOTH than to be without EITHER.
