I was told the avatar combined Mark The Shark and Tony R ... so which one's tied to the tree?
"Death to Utopia! Death to faith! Death to love! Death to hope?" thunders the 20th century. "Surrender, you pathetic dreamer.”

"No" replies the unhumbled optimist "You are only the present."

There is a bit of javascript at the end of your post:

<!--
var SymRealOnLoad;
var SymRealOnUnload;

function SymOnUnload()
{
window.open = SymWinOpen;
if(SymRealOnUnload != null)
     SymRealOnUnload();
}

function SymOnLoad()
{
if(SymRealOnLoad != null)
     SymRealOnLoad();
window.open = SymRealWinOpen;
SymRealOnUnload = window.onunload;
window.onunload = SymOnUnload;
}

SymRealOnLoad = window.onload;
window.onload = SymOnLoad;

//--m

I don't know how it got there or even what it tries to do, but Internet Explorer and Firefox both hide it. The only solution I can see is for either you or an admin to use a different browser (Opera works) to edit posts if this happens. Or fill up a page each time, of course

edit: it turns out that that code is appended to every one of your posts. Possibly it's not the issue, but it'd be nice to find out if anyone endowed with admin powers wants to give it a go

It's created by Norton System Works. Do you have this running ricochet? The code is to prevent pop-ups and is typical of the way norton screws up your system. It can be disabled from the internet security window.

Yes,but I don't think NSW has anything to do with the problem...the reply box simply "blends" with my message...
