I have 3 earlier Porcupine Tree albums, Coma Divine Live , some early double album i can't think of, and In Absentia. Coma Divine i enjoy, In absentia i enjoy but as staed earlier i have tried and tried but find Deadwing only interesting in parts and was interested to see that Prog archives voted it album of the year when large slabs are devoted to Verse and chorus and two quite intricate excellent jams then tedious grey slabs of goo in between. If i had reviewed this album after 2 weeks it would have scored 1 it has since risen to a 3 because of the good bits but album of the year? I can't get my head around that. |

As I said before: try everyting from "Tarquin's seaweed farm" to "Signify". From that point, just stay away from their albums. They all sound like OASIS, but under some kind of medication...

Cygnus, Take the Veil Cerpin Taxt, Drunkhip Of Lanterns, Enuch Provocatour. There's nothing wrong with Casandra, I just feel that it lacks some of the punch later in the song that their shorter (and even then, their material isn't as short) material. There's the entire recorded jam session that could've been trimmed abit, but other than that, I love the song and think it ranks up there with the Great Progressive epics. |

No disrespect to your comment but the build up in the last 5 minutes is orgasmic. The whole song teases you after the enormous build up and the lingering jam which threatens to explode but doesn't and just as you give up hope the whole mood changes, lifts and explodes taking us through to the final coda. The long slow jam is essential to building the tension so that the song can resolve itself. well thats what i think. |
