Anyone out there familiar with this album? I get the feeling it's something of a lost classic in Wakeman's career. The more I play it, the more I think it's my favourite Wakeman album.

'After The Ball' and 'The Loser' in particular are two of his most gorgeous songs- totally ham free, emotional piano pieces with subtle use of synths or mellotrons. The title track is a real rocker too, with some stunning synth virtuosity. However, all the tracks are atmopsheric and often haunting.

I wonder if more are aware of this lost gem...

White Rock is... not his best but I agree that it is quite good.

Weak if we compare it with his previous works, but not bad either, I would rate it with 2,5 stars.

No way, I find Softsword (King John and the Magna Carta) or Return to the Centre of the Earth far more interesting than White Rock.

He uses a bit of tales From Topographic Oceans on it. I didn't like the film much at the time either.

I remember going to see the film, which attracted a bizarre mix of winter sports fans and prog heads. Wakeman's soundtrack worked pretty well, from what I recall, although the film itself was almost completely unmemorable. The album, like a lot of soundtracks, didn't work brilliantly without the accompanying visuals.

A big bonus was the b feature - a film of Genesis on the TOTT or WAW tour which featured a lot of the Seconds Out material, some good concert footage and some random clips of old films accompanying the longer instrumental passages.
