Topic: Best mainstream prog rock/metal track? Posted: November 20 2005 at 20:06 |
Enough with the 30 minutes tracks that go on for ages...
Let's try sth different. Which is the best "easy listening"
or "mainstream", but really qualitative prog rock/metal track that comes into your mind?
I would say............ Crystalline Dream by Shadow Gallery.

Some personal favorites:
Genesis - The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway - Anyway
-I love this song, its really beautiful and quite short.
Dream Theater - Hell's Kitchen, Overture 1928, Fatal Tragedy.
-Fatal Tragedy isn't radio length but its not THAT long, under 7 minutes, and its not even slightly boring. Hell's Kitchen and Overture 1928 are both brilliant and short.
Jethro Tull - Aqualung
-about 6 minutes something if I remember correctly. Jethro Tull has some really great short songs you should look into them, can't really recall any names right now...
Rush - The Spirit of Radio, Red Barchetta, The Trees, YYZ...
-Rush have ALOT of good short songs aswel, I just listed a few personal favorites, they have lots of good ones.
Liquid Tension Experiment - Kindred Spirits,
-Great song, under 7 minutes aswel.

Prog is not very big in the UK (shame really, I feel I belong in the 70's, yeah a 20 yr old 70's kid LOL) but if I was to say the biggest mainstream porg/metal tracks are Another Brick in the Wall prt II and anything by Muse possibly plug in baby.
At least they are what I know of I do wish though more prog would become mainstream Id love to see how tose little pinkey, chavy, teeny boppers took Tool, the mars volta, or Dream Theater on top of the pops! LOL
