God where do i start
I found this site cause i chased some links that promised some free frank zappa music... and found gold.
Was already into....King Crimo, Hawkwind, Pink Floyd, Neu, Radiohead. Knew of Yes, but couldnt get into jon andersons voice till now (must be age).
Loved kraut rock, and immediately loved Amon Duul II, Can, and Exmagma.
Other wonders so far discoved include: Van Der Graff Generator, Gentle Giant, Genesis (thou i already had the 'trespas' album), Mogwai, and Sigor Ros (especially their () album...wow).
Also gained a new apreciation for Weather Report.
Have only explored a few 'subgenures' so far... am sure many more are to come.
Enjoy
PS... r u sure that there isnt any more post rock music/artist around...

I'm on a listening phase which include some new material of bands which I discovered here.
A revelation was THE MARS VOLTA with "Frances the mute".
Other albums I got, but I didn't listen much are OZRIC TENTACLES, SIGUR ROS, THE FLOWER KINGS,all of this seems to be tasty!
Less convincing that is something of my taste are PENDRAGON, DREAM THEATERS, but I'll need listening carefull.
Then I knew LIQUID TENSION EXPERIMENT, PORCUPINE TREE (I got "In Absentia" because I was amazed by the Sound of Muzak song!), TOOL (maybe a bit out of genre IMO, but good music), beside that A PERFECT CIRCLE. I didn't really find so much interesting RADIOHEAD, "Bends".
Thanks to all of you to such a precious guide!

All of Van der Graaf Generator (and Peter Hammill), Kevin Ayers, England, and Comus I first discovered at Prog Archives!
Well done gents . . . although I'm still trying to get over the $30 bucks I wasted on Gravy Train's Stairway to the Day someone on this site pointed me towards [menacing glaring and fist shaking].

Cheers!

In no particular order:
- Genesis (Peter Gabriel era)
- Porcupine Tree
- Opeth
- Eloy
- Symphony X
- Anglagard
- VDGG
- GY!BE
- Caravan
- Gentle Giant
...and a means to an end of completing my back catalogue of CD's for:
- Yes
- King Crimson (pre-1975)
- Jethro Tull
- Camel
...plus loads of other artists too numerous to mention - it has been and still is one heck of a trip!!!

"Music is the Wine that fills the cup of Silence"

the first couple of bands represent my most fortunate finds, after Focus the list is rather at random...
Van der Graaf Generator!!!! Can Tangerine Dream (*) Renaissance Gong Magma Caravan Frank Zappa (*) Amon Düül II Ashra (Tempel) Focus Gentle Giant Guru Guru (*) Hawkwind Kansas (*) Mahavishnu Orchestra (*) Manfred Mann's Earth Band Nektar The Nice Procol Harum Strawbs Supertamp (*) Return to Forever Mike Rutherford Talk Talk (*) (this is indeed interesting!)
and not so favorites: Saga Porcupine Tree Soft Machine Weather Report Asia Radiohead and many other neo-prog/prog-metal bands I'm now not into at all...
(*) indicates a band/artist I heard about -and in some instances listened to a couple of pieces- before coming to progarchives, but didn't know it was related to prog at all... one more: I wouldn't go into King Crimson this much if it wasn't for progarchives... The reviews on '80's and '90's stuff changed my view completely.

Listen to Turkish psych/prog; you won't regret: Baris Manco,Erkin Koray,Cem Karaca,Mogollar,3 Hürel,Selda,Edip Akbayram,Fikret Kizilok,Ersen (and Dadaslar) (but stick with the '70's, and 'early 80's!)

Before I came to the site the only thing I knew about prog was that Opeth was prog metal and that I liked them Then I went crazy and downloaded everything I could find on this site, which was a lot more than just prog metal...so if I listed all of the great bands that I've found on here it would take up a couple pages. My favs, KC VdGG Echolyn Camel Gentle Giant Anekdoten The Mars Volta SGM etc. etc. etc.
