Ive just checked out your new recatergarization of prog metal and it looks great. Theres only one thing i have to contest and that is that i belive that Dream Theater belongs in the symphonic ctagory and not Neo

I know how you feel ... I'm also torn on this question. The problem is that several people who are very familiar with Neo-Prog suggested that they're neo - and I have to agree. IMO they're 60% neo, 40% symphonic. But again: Those two categories are not carved in stone and there will be much fluctuation between neo and symphonic, and that's also why they will definitely be combined. BTW: I renamed "Melodic Prog Metal" to "Symphonic Prog Metal" ... after all, Neo Prog is derived from Symphonic Prog. http://uneasy-listening.com/elements/apps/mreviews/https/Pro gMetal.html |

Ok that list makes even more sense. Im prbably just nit- picking but Dream Theater base their work on their technical abilaties too much for me to consider them Neo |

It's not meant as a new genre, but to keep track of bands that can probably be moved to non metal genres like Art Rock. |

Now Melodic is Symphonic, but I'm still curious about this. |

Only one short name will be used ... right now I fancy "Symphonic Prog Metal", "Melodic Prog Metal" was a stupid idea. The next level of categorisation will not be visible on the site - for now, it may be visible some day, if more levels are supported AND the categories are stable. But I will mention the possible subcategories and the involved Metal styles in the genre description. Edited by MikeEnRegalia |

Aparently I am all alone on this one... Someone care to explain the experimental category to me? By the way, the list has been updated once more, looking even better! Great job! |

Borknagar lumped in with Nightwish and Rhapsody? That doesn't make ANY sense whatsoever. They should definitely be in Extreme.

I dont think thats a bad way of sub-sub dividing prog metal, I persoanlly like it all but im not to sure about lumping JP in with the power genre of prog metal. To me prog is prog i like it all both new (new-prog, prog-metal) and old.

Mikey! Really think You could move Orchestral & marry it with Power... Those genres have quite a lot in common... Gothic & Doom are often thought of as one genre, as Flossy wrote... As for band categorizing, I'll only post if something really looks really wrong |
