My Fellow Prog Enthusiasts.....

i feel that i must show my utter distaste for the prog music genre and the bands that fall under that title. The following bands are ones that isee as highly over-rated and phony; Pink Floid, Rush, Yes, Gentle Giant and King Crimson, the list goes on. The recent performance by Pink FLoiod at Live 8 was quite a spectacle to be mocked, i only hope and pray that they do not go on a full scale world tour as that could prove catastrophic. Which brings me back to my point, prog music is possbily worse than it has ever been, and should consequently be burnt at the stake.

P - Pathetic

R - Rudimentary

O - Over-Rated

G - Go Away

Yours Sincerely, Ben Retter.

p.s For actual quality prog, look for a band callled Aqua, belive it or not, but there are certain elements of prog in some songs.

I feel at this point the need to quote the bard of Salford himself:

TWAT

Like a Night Club in the morning, you’re the bitter end.
Like a recently disinfected sh*t-house, you’re clean round the bend.
    You give me the horrors
    too bad to be true
    All of my tomorrow’s
    are lousy coz of you.

You put the Shat in Shatter
    Put the Pain in Spain
    Your germs are splattered about
Your face is just a stain

You’re certainly no raver, commonly known as a drag.
Do us all a favour, here... wear this polythene bag.

You’re like a dose of scabies,
I’ve got you under my skin.
You make life a fairy tale... Grimm!

People mention murder, the moment you arrive.
I’d consider killing you if I thought you were alive.
    You’ve got this slippery quality,
it makes me think of phlegm,
    and a dual personality
    I hate both of them.

Your bad breath, vamps disease, destruction, and decay.
Please, please, please, please, take yourself away.
Like a death at a birthday party,
    you ruin all the fun.
Like a sucked and spat out smartie,
    you’re no use to anyone.
Like the shadow of the guillotine
    on a dead consumptive’s face.
    Speaking as an outsider,
what do you think of the human race

You went to a progressive psychiatrist.
    He recommended suicide...
before scratching your bad name off his list,
    and pointing the way outside.

You hear laughter breaking through, it makes you want to fart.
    You’re heading for a breakdown,
    better pull yourself apart.

Your dirty name gets passed about when something goes amiss.
    Your attitudes are platitudes,
    just make me wanna piss.

What kind of creature bore you
Was it some kind of bat
They can’t find a good word for you,
    but I can...
    TWAT.

Perhaps correct in saying that traditional prog bands aren't at
the top of their game (when was the last earth-shattering Yes
album?), you can't just criticize progressive without putting it in
the context of the dire state of the entire world of pop and rock.
Is Hip Hop offering anything new? Or Grunge? Techno maybe?
Recycling and regurgitation is the order of the day! Thankfully,
a handful of talented musicians have simply grown bored with
the existing state of affairs, and are producing radical new
sounds with no regard for the prevailing prejudice against all
things progressive, and are blowing people away, not by
following the clichés and norms of "traditional Progressive" (an
oxymoron if ever there was one), but by showing them what's
possible when the limits are just "ignored"...Sleepytime Gorilla
Theater, Mars Volta, Django Bates, Secret Chiefs 3, other
bands in the wake of Mr. Bungle...creativity will always find a
way to break through the marketing machinery.

Never argue with anyone "more stupid" than yourself.

What a waste of life.

Progressive is probably the same as any other music genre,
about 5% is original and creative, and the rest is plagiarism
and marketing.

No, really, you guys are right, all progressive music is genius,
nobody has the right to criticize any of it, and everything else
sucks.

When dealing with t**sers like the originator of this thread, remember:

"Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience".
