Well, yes it's little bit difficult to describe their music though. But
if you like badly-destorted sounds [from vocal to guitar..] and if you
like moody-kind of music ..in term of changing mood all the time, then
you will like it.

The best thing is that the druming, I found is very great and powerful.

The drumming is my favorite part too

I really love The Mars Volta it really is a throw-back to all of the 70s prog but also with a nod to the future and they are progressive in the true sense of the word. Frances The Mute is my favourite of the two albums but both are definitely worth getting. Finally new life in the prog-scene!

ehhh...they have their moments..

The widow is an amazing song, But overall i really don't think that they are that great

I can strangle a canary in a tin can and it would be really original, but that wouldn't save it from sounding like utter sh*t.

Yes, Cicatriz is a very long song when played live....but I've yeat to hear it live and not lose interest at some point. They always keep me guessing, and that's what I love about the band.

and BTW, they have a live album coming out November 8th.

Well, what can I add ? one of the top 5 prog bands of the 2000's (and beyond ?).
Just listen to the 30 minutes of Cassandra Geminni (Frances The Mute album).

De-loused is an amazing debut album, more accessible than FTM, but FTM is simply bigger.

--EDIT : thanks for the info about the live album
