That's what I want, though - a guitar which is more accessible to shredding and/or metal, ie, quick/thin neck, low action, and a good distortion sound.
What bugs me about Ibanez guitars is that there are so damn many different models of the same guitar! People say "try an RG", but I go to the store, and there are like 10 different RGs, ranging from about $300 - $3000! Very confusing imo.

To me, it doesn't get better than a real well made PRS or a Parker Fly, these guitars are true wonders. Though lately Ive taken a real liking to Fender Stratocasters, as well as Telecasters, Fender makes some pretty great affordable guitars.

Well Ibanez are definitely the most comfortable guitars i've played. I don't care for Gibsons in sound or feel, strats are nice enough, but i don't really have a need for one. I've tried some other stuff, but nothing too great at all.
Even though i like Ibanez, i don't like the JEMs. I remember trying one a while back and it felt horrible for some reason. I don't know what it was, but it was a chore to play it. But the other Ibanez guitars i've play have been beautiful, especially the prestige ones
The other guitarist in my band has a UV, an RG2127X, and an RGA121. I don't really care for the neck on the UV, but the RG2127X and the RGA121 are beautiful! I especially adore the sound on the RGA121. That maple top just brings the whole guitar to life, and you can feel it resonate in your hands. The 2127 also has perhaps the best fretboard i've played on.
Of course i can't forget my guitar. I need to replace the pickups, but it's still a really nice guitar. Ibanez RG 370 MH.
Not to mention the fact that the necks are so beautifully thin They are the perfect shape for me. Smooth, fast, easy access, just beatiful.
Yes, i love Ibanez!

My ESP AND the JEM own my Gibson Nighthawk in many aspects - including clean sound.

I have tried several ibanez guitars..including JEM's and i think they are too metal for me...with the cluncky floyd rose..thin necks...and i dont like that they are so thing...it makes them sound a bit weak to my preferences...

yeah the parker is amazing...but, imho, there are some models way more affordable than the supreme which could please you very much...once i tried a NiteFly (wood body, bolt on neck) and it was INCREDIBLE...easily the BEST bolt on necked solid body i've ever played in my life (and I've tried a few). The price tag should be around 1500$ (I guarantee that it's worth every cent).

I was thinking of getting an Ibanez JEM - anyone know if it's worth the massive price tag?

I don't think it is. Unless you desperately need the groovy paintings, go buy a prestige RG: you will spend a lot less and will have more or less the same guitar (yes, THE SAME GUITAR), unless maybe for the DiMarzio's (I don't trust the DiMarzio/Ibanez's much). And...don't EVER think that the Jem you buy at your store is the same Jem used by Vai....ever heard of "ghostbuilders"?

JEMs are great ... I have the JEM555bk. But you should go to the store and play different guitars before you make a decision ... even guitars of the same model can sound totally different.
BTW: I would recommend the JEM555 ... if you're not extremely wealthy. I bought a used one, and I'm quite happy with it.
