Man im proud of myself i lent my metalhead friend Fragile by Yes he really dug it. Next I lent him tales from topographic oceans but afterwards i realized that was probably a mistake surprisingly though he loved it he said the day i lent it to him he listened to it all the way through not once but twice! He thinks Genesis and Dream Theatre are good musically but the vocals are bad. I can understand him thinking that about DT but Genesis?! anyway i think ill lend him an Opeth cd next as he likes death metal and black metal. Oh and a wannabe punk who listens to such contemptable crap as Green Day and the Offspring etc. Said a Camel cd i showed him was "awesome"

yeah lol i just thought that was cool anyone else have any strange conversion stories haha

Well, not so much a complete conversion, but an old girlfriend of mine used to ASK to hear certain Yes and Genesis albums that I had played her. She was quite musical anyway, being a piano student and a lover of folk and some rock music. She actually thought 'Going for the One' by Yes was one of the best albums she had ever heard. She also used to sing along to 'Thick as a Brick' and knew all the words Thanks to HER ex boyfriend, so he has to take credit for that!
Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

^^^I have long since given up.  The world is full of trogladites, ignorami, prolateriats and the unwashed...they'll never understand...
Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

I'm trying to convert my oldest son to prog (in fact, any kind of music apart from the Pokemon theme tune would do). Any tips?

Hmm...I sometimes wonder how I ended up loving prog music and I think I've concluded that it's purely genetic. My mother and father both grew up listening to prog music and I somehow came to pick up the thread. But some people just don't get it, and that's fine. They're the ones missing out, anyway...

But if I had to convert someone I'd start subtly and slowly, with more mainstream music that has only touches of prog themes in it, then slowly immerse them with more and more progressive themes until before you know it, they're hooked!

Like a frog in water slowly boiling...muhahaha!!
