What about live dvd's? They are much better albums of getting into and artist than best of or greatest hits collections. On live dvd's (or albums) you get a much greater diversity taking the most well known songs and mixing them with the not so well known and the songs that are well known but not hits and besides sound quality can be alot better if its an really old artist that has been going on from the 70's and so on.

DVDs are great if they are good quality. It's hard to find DVDs with classic
footage...most of the prog DVDs out there are by the bands as old
dudes...not necessarily bad, but not quite the same as when they were
young and vital, IMO. And a lot of them (ie Classic Rock Productions) are
either really short or a rip-off bunch of "commentary".

The VdGG Godbluff DVD is awesome.
The BJH live one from the seventies out now has terrible sound quality,
but at least they look good.

Any other good prog DVDs out there featuring classic 70s (hell, even 80s)
footage? I hear the Camel ones are pretty good.

I am not a big fan of live albums per se, but I absolutely LOVE a good concert video! Especially one from a prog band, since I think watching good musicians play is as fascinating as listening to them.

Faves:

Gentle Giant - Giant On The Box
Rush - In Rio
Rush - Exit Stage Left
Yes - Keys To Ascension
An old Crimson clip I found on the P2P nets from 72 or 73, playing Larks' Tongues Part I
The old Genesis boots that were posted here recently
Pink Floyd - At Pompeii
Dream Theater - Live Scenes From New York
Led Zeppelin DVD
