If you want to listen to something happy listen to Van der Graaf Generator/Peter Hammill.

or Mr. Bungle (Disco Volante).

..or... Tool (Lateralus/Aenima)

....or Amon Duul II (Phallus Dei, Yeti..?)

..Can, Ash Ra Tempel, Faust, Godspeed You Black Emperor!, Mars Volta, Tangerine Dream...

what else am I forgetting?

[hint: don't listen to these bands if you find Genesis depressing]

Hey, I actually like tool, I think they're really awesome.

[The lyrics aren't great for the most part, you're right, but the music/vocals are really great I think]

And no, Tool isn't happy, I wasn't being serious --- look at all the others I listed.

I'd indicate their first instead.

Wow king.I agree TOOL is not a happy band, and their lyrics are sorta out there. But the band overall is a joke?I am a veteran of many, many concerts and live TOOL is the best band I have ever seen.Hands down.Period.Everything perfect and flawless, they sound even better than they do on cd.And you seem to like good drummers(Portnoy, who I worship),you don't think Danny Carey is an incredible drummer?

I like the band's talent, but Carey is IMO a huge waste of talent, just like Tool. I don't want to start a large argument here, because its not about Tool, its about recommending music to this dude. I'd not recommend Tool first of all because its so strange and its so inexcessible at first.

Hey King,I wasn't trying to start an argument with you at all.Your musical tastes are quite similar to mine and I was just surprised at that statment. No harm,no foul.

I didn't buy floor seats to see TOOL last year because I actually wanted to SEE and HEAR the band and didn't want to get the crap knocked out of me in the pit.So I got first tier seats and a friend of mine who had floor seats said the concert sucked for him.I had a great time.Did the same with Slipknot when I saw them last.

I really enjoy Tool, but too many people are obsessed with Maynard. Sure, he has fine vocal chords, but the man isn't a god, people.

The same goes for A Perfect Circle - if Maynard hadn't been the vocalist, I never would have liked the band, but now that doesn't even matter because I don't like the band even with Maynard involved. . .

"Don't listen to me."

Ayreon- The Human Equation is better because of the variation, the emotions and better instrumentation. Really interesting song on The Human Equation is Day 16: Loser.

There is a piccolo, flute, keyboards and Devin Townsend's roaring Mike Patton-like screaming, really weird.
