OK,
I voted for Annie, coz she is my fave...love her voice on 'Song for all seasons' and 'Live at Carnegie hall', just wonderful
I do agree that Sonja Kristina should be in there, her voice and looks should guarantee enrty!!
I also agree that Christina from Magenta should be too, she does sound alot like Annie, but she is very strong and exact to be sure, oddly the best example of this is the 'Prog aid' song 'all around the world' where her voice comes out of nowhere and cuts right through every thing else and you immediatley know it is her singing.
I LOVE Kate Bush, lets hope after finally having a kid and raising him it might persuade her to finish off that album, jeez, the orchestral parts were done almost two years ago, i heard.
Then for different reasons Cathy Alexander of The Morrigan, she has a great voice also, but I have had the pleasure of mixing her voice. fun it was too!

None of the above.
Heather Findlay, vocalist for Mostly Autumn, would be my personal favorite.

Maggie Reilley, Gilli Smith, Lisa Gerrard, Stella Vander, and the singer in the Cocteau Twins (forget her name) all are worth a mention.

Some great voices were forgotten: Maggie Reilly, Jacqui McShee, Sandy Denny, Judy Dyble, Gay Woods, Grace Slick...
To Meurglys III: Cocteau Twins' singer was Liz Fraser.

Easiest poll yet - Kate Bush by a mile, with honourable mentions to Annie Haslam, Maggie Reilly and Liz Fraser.

BTW, though she's not by any means prog, has
any of you ever heard Skin, formerly of Skunk Anansie? She sings a

I mentioned Skin.

I don't know why but I can't stand female voices in rock music.

In no order:
- Annie Haslam
- Christina Murphy Booth (Magenta)
- Katharine Blake (Miranda Sex Garden and Mediæval Bæbes)
- Maddy Prior (Steeleye Span)
- Magdalena Hagberg (Par Lindh Project)
The 5 have incredible voices, IMO Kate Bush is not in their level, even when she's a good vocalist.

Annie!
Sandy Denny is also awesome, they have different approaches to the same vibe--Annie's voice isperfect, whereas Sandy winks at you.

Tarja Turunen from Nightwish (they're kind of prog) and Simone Simon from Epica (again, somewhat prog). Mmmmm, power-epic-symphonic-goth-metal!!! (?)

Sonja Kristina. She's so powerful on Curved Air Live. Marie Antoinette
rocks on this album. Kick-ass aggressive vocals from a female singer...
reminds me a bit of Janis Joplin. We need more women singers of this
caliber...

I voted for Tori Amos but I really LOVE the voices of Annie Haslam and Kate Bush...
I will add to the list SARAH TRONDAL former vocalist of White Willow... and of course DIAMANDA GALAS (try to listen the album that she made with John Paul Jones, THE SPORT LIFE... a weird piece of colection)...

I used to think that Annie Haslam's voice was annoying because it 'swayed' too much, if you know what I mean, but a few listens of Ashes are Burning changed that for me- she's nothing short of gorgeous!
