Topic: Devil Doll - The Girl Posted: May 12 2005 at 14:10 |
Hey, I was reading a few of the suggestion threads over the last couple of weeks and kept seeing Devil Doll pop up. I saw a used copy of The Girl Who Was Death in the bargain bin yesterday and picked it up. SWEEEEEEET.
I've had a blast listening to this. Good and over the top with a sense of humour. No unnecessary LOOK AT ME I CAN PLAY SCALES REALLY FAST. Great song, was gonna say songs, but I guess there's only 1.5 song hehehehehe. Gotta get the rest of their stuff now. Not sure I could listen to it 24/7 but what a great change of pace.
Thanks to everyone who suggested them.

Devil Doll is a really decent band... Try Sacrilegium and Dies Irae too.

I don't know why but DD remind me of A.C.T. ACT are a little more instrumental and pomp rockish. DD is a bit more theatrical. Both are fun though.

A really unique group. Brilliant.
You need to get the Devil Doll masterpiece "Dies Irae". The other albums are good stuff as well.

The band is not very known at home but there is a cult following. The musicians are more known for other projects (non-prog).

Hey terramystic,
Do you know what Mr. Doctor is up to nowadays? I know that he doesen't
give any interviews at least related to Devil Doll. Have you heard any
rumours that there still could be a new studio album?

I did have a big online article about them, a bit old, but newer than any recordings they've done. I think it basically said there wern't any plans to do anything more. There was quite some interesting stuff in it though. Incidentally, I wish someone could have leaked "Mark of the Beast"(?)

btw, the CDs are not easy to come by in the US (at least not in redneckville where I live now). We have both kinds of music here, country AND western. NASCAR is not just a sport, it's the ONLY sport. I guess the fact that millions of people will watch cars make a left hand turn all afternoon while sniffing exhaust pretty much explains why pop music exists.
Back to the topic hehehe...I would have to mail order for like $30 to have them shipped. I have no clue how The Girl Who made it into a bargain bin in these parts. I'll keep searching and hoping.

I believe Mr. Doctor has the only copy of "Mark of the Beast".

I bought "Sacrilege of Fatal Arms" out of curiousity. I still consider it a curiosity in the world of prog rock. That's a quality I appreciate and I'm keeping it !

he's been pretty elusive for the past few years, and it's uncertain whether he'll release more new music after teh Dies Irae recording disaster. hes still making art i think, but mostly just for himself. i post on the DD forum, and there is a petition amongst fans that will be presented to him with pleas for more releases. www.devildoll.nl :)
