Topic: Yes Album recommendation Posted: August 19 2005 at 09:46 |
Certainly start with Fragile and The Yes Album - especially if you came from Rush, you'll like those two. (and if you're getting into prog then you should have those two in your collection alongside Close to the Edge anyway!!) If you can handle that and want longer stuff, then go for Relayer.
Don't try Tales until you can get through Relayer and maybe Going for the One (if you came from Rush you'd probably like that too!). You may not even want to try Tales at all I know I only like two out of four parts. You might like 90125 and Drama too.
So basically I'm saying everything that's already been said. I do that a lot But hey, good luck and happy listening!

Relayer's a good second choice if CTTE is your first Yes album, cause it
follows the same format as CTTE but hints to a listener the various
directions Yes goes in the future while remaining prog as all hell. From
that point, the earlier albums are more of a treat, and the later albums
aren't such a terrifying shock (since there is good music to be had on
some of them, so long as jon anderson or rick wakeman's respective
new-age fetishes aren't the primary motifs of the songs.)

I would recommend picking up 2 albums: "Fragile" and "the Yes Album." I find other albums to be better, but its good to see where the CTTE sound evolved from and I'm sure you'll love the songs on both of these albums. After you wear those out, you should move in for "Tales" and "Relayer".
