Topic: STEVE VAI ADDED!!! Wheres Todd? Posted: August 08 2005 at 18:26 |
This is probably old news but however I'm rejoicing and letting you know right know.
Not only that PRIMUS and OYSTERHEAD have been added!!!!! (When is "Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains", "Sausage", or "The Les Claypool Frog Brigade" being added?)
but here's the big question WHERES TODD RUNDGREN? Plenty of his material certainly falls under "progressive" and it should be recognized. Besides he led UTOPIA, producing some prog classics. Listen to his "A Wizard/A TRue Star" and everything after that and YOU WILL BE CONVINCED!!!!!!!
Discuss.

I wasn't caliming they weren't. In fact thats how I discovered the archives.
OK:
Peter Gabriel: Genesis
Todd Rundgren: UTOPIA
Fish: Marillion
It's not like I'm asking the archives to recognize Phil Collins or something.
"........but theres always more!":
This should be a good enough reason. It's not the only one but it's good enough for me considering not all of Fishs or Gabriels output is considered prog or QUEEN for that matter.

Is Todd's solo work prog?
I'm not saying it's not, I'm just wondering.

Well your just going to have to listen and decide for yourself. Check out "A Whiz....", "Todd", "Initiation" (DUDE THIS HAS A 36 minute instramental synth epic), "Healing"............Even "Something/Anything" is far more than your average album.

I agree with the Todd Rundgren sentiment. I have Something/Anything? and AWATS. AWATS is definitely the proggier of the two, and a very good album.

'A Wizard/A True Star' is defintely a prog album, plus albums like 'Todd' have elements of prog too, and although 'Initiation' would seem like the most progressive, it's actually the worst I've ever heard by him; 'A Treatise On Cosmic Fire' is dismally dull- 36 minutes of synth twiddling...and it doesn't get much worse than 'Born To Synthesise'. The only good track on there is 'Real Man', which isn't prog, yet is a great pop rocker; the rest of the album is too gimmicky for me.
I don't recall there being much prog on 'Something/Anything' though; it's a superb album with a myriad of styles, but not prog as I recall.
In other words, I'm sitting on the fence a bit with Rundgren- he's undoubtedly done some prog, but whether it's enough to justify his inclusion is open to debate. Also- it seemed to me he saved most of his progressive stuff for Utopia, who are already here of course.

Wiz/Ts,
Why not start a poll to drum up some support, then submit the bio & discography for inclusion?
