Topic: If Queen stays, then... Posted: August 07 2005 at 20:04 |
Boston is not far behind. I can hear the smashing of keyboards in the wind.

Although I do have a special place in my heart for Boston, there is no way in hell they belong on the archives. Yes, they have a distinct sound and did a lot with electronics, but they didn't do anything "progressive". Besides, they became really pop oriented later. Third Stage?

I have yet to discover how Queen has made it on to this site, listed with the greatest of bands of that which we call Prog! Talented? Yes, influential? yes, Prog? Seriously... "But surely their music was artistic and hence forth should be considered prog!" If that be the reasoning, then where are the Talking Heads? Remain the Light is infinitely more "Prog" then anything released by Queen.....Yes, I understand that art is in the eye of the beholder, yet, when one speaks of "Prog" I think of Supper's ready, Close to the edge, Larks tongues in aspic, Brain Salad Surgery, Anglagard, Gryphon and a host of other truly progressive rock greats...etc. Does anyone out there really think Bohemian Rhapsody?

Well, I know much of Queen's work was pop-oriented garbage. I do enjoy Bohemian Rhapsody though, its probably the closest to prog they ever got. But we should try not to re-ignite old arguments, right?

I am closing this thread because there are already at least a couple of others already in progress on this issue.
Peace.
